Bass with a tremolo?

Re: Bass with a tremolo?

Not a floyd but I am certain I seen Dave La Rue use a trem on his bass.

Re: Bass with a tremolo?

Kahler makes a bass trem. Les Claypool uses it often, perhaps most notably on Jon the Fisherman.

Re: Bass with a tremolo?

Kahler makes them. Fender VI's have them too. (But they're technically vibratos, not tremolos. ;))

Thanks gentlemen!! And that video is awesome. At first I was like, "huh", and then I was like, "wow".

Re: Bass with a tremolo?

My first thought was that an unlocking nut would cause it to go outta tune. I guess the guy in the video has his setup really well....like a perfectly cut and polished nut.

Re: Bass with a tremolo?

Les Claypool is probably the most well known player to use a bass tremolo. He uses Kahler Models.

Re: Bass with a tremolo?

The bass column in Premier Guitar has been about vibrato bridge for the last month or so.

Re: Bass with a tremolo?

There was a guy in my class at B.I.T. that had a bass with a tremolo.

Re: Bass with a tremolo?

Washburn made a bass with a whammy bar a while ago. I think it was a Bantam. It didn't have a locking nut, but it had fine tuners.

Re: Bass with a tremolo?

The GF video pretty much demonstrates everything that needs to be explained EXCEPT the cavity routing requirements. Some of the slur and slide techniques are the reason why I play fretless more than fretted bass guitar.

The Hybrid X version of the Kahler guitar vibrato bridge features a lockable Allen screw if you decide to lock the bridge into "fixed" mode. By now, there may be a Hybrid X variant for bass guitar.
