It's thick, but I can't put my finger on whether its mids or bass that it has. Great sustain though, very nice thick tone.

Re: Basswood/mahogany/ ???????

well, since les pauls are known for their midrange, and they're mahogany, i'd say they have a pronounced midrange

prolly why they work well with marshalls

asian basswood is my favorite, but i don't like anything in perticular pronounced, just an all over, warm, full, natural sound

I Think Basswood is what u'd looking. basswood has the balanced tone or if u want more "mid" , u can use alder. alder has the same tone and output with basswood but more "middy". :):)
