Battle of the JCM800s

Re: Battle of the JCM800s

Whats your favorite JCM800 model? I know this thread has been done before.

I found a JCM800 with 1960a cab for sale locally for $900. I'm not sure what series or year it is yet. I sent the guy an email. Is this a good price?

Oh...Yeah...How loud will I have to turn up the JCM800 to get decent sound with an attenuator? As long as it doesn't require earplugs or rattle the house I'm fine. Also, what attenuator? cheaper the better.

I have a 1982 2204, completely stock, sounds awesome! I use a THD Hot Plate with it, I'm very happy with the results. You will still need to crank it though, even with an attenuator it's still pretty loud, too loud for an apartment.

Be sure that this amp your getting is stock, if not find out what mods were done to it. Also be sure it has the stock transformers. Also, 2204s DO NOT have a cheaper OT than the 2203s. That's a myth and pure BS, so say all the pro amp techs I've talked to who have been working on them for the last 30 or so years. As long as it has a Drake OT it will sound great. If not then find out what they replaced it with. A Mercury Magnetics OT is an excellent replacement.

Cheers,

CJ
