BBE Acoustimax Acoustic Instrument Preamp Pedal.

I've mentioned this a couple times in other threads, but I think it's worthy of its own. Technically, its marketed as an acoustic guitar preamp, but I've used it with both electric and bass, and it sounds killer. I even emailed BBE and asked them if there was any danger using it with bass, and they said (paraphrasing) rock away. I love the versatility of the tone controls. TMB, but the mid control is parametric. Also, it has a mid parametric notch filter. So you can warm up the midrange with one control, and "demud" the tone with another. And while I've never been a huge fan of the Sonic Maximizer, (even though I own three), in this preamp, it works. I'm especially surprised by how nicely it brings a little sparkle and "air" to my J-bass. Add in a 2.2M input impedance, DI XLR out, line out, EFX loop, tuner out and phase and pad switches, and she's a super versatile unit.

For $150 bucks, I really think this thing is hard to beat. It's become one of the most valuable tools in my guitar toolbox. Check it out.

That looks like one hell of a pedal! I use an Acoustic X-citer, which is sort of a direct box for acoustic instruments.

I've only heard the Aural Exciter a couple times, but I liked it. The story with those is that the inventor accidentally mis-wired a Dynaco amp kit, and "discovered" that sound. It's grown into an industry. :)

By the way . . . thanks for giving me more GAS! :D I see they make an electric guitar version too.

I didn't say they were my CD's. I bought it from a jazz saxophone player - Will Donato
