I have a BC Rich Perfect 10, I've had for a while now. It's a 13 with all the bells and whistles. 2 volume knobs, a tone knob, a 3-way toggle, 5-way chickenhead tone filter, two coil-tap switches, and one reverse-phase mini-switch. I'm looking to change the pickups. It has Duncan Designed pickups in it, which are ok, but they really don't do the guitar justice. They also come with Rockfield Mafia pickups as well. I really don't care for those either. I play Black Metal/ Death Metal with this guitar. An Invader is not an option, as I play with a lot of gain, and it will really muddy it up. I'm looking for something that has power and clarity, but will also take advantage of the multiple options the electronics provide. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance guys.....

Thanks. I'm just wondering what pickups would utilize all the features it has to offer. I'm at a loss.

A lot of power and a lot of gain don't go together.

You can have high output pickups, and turn the gain down
You can have low output and turn the gain up
High output + High Preamp Gain = High likelihood of mud

What Duncan Designed are in it? Because if it is 103's then you also don't want Distortions, etc...

So, if you are leaving the gain on past 7/8 for whatever Uber amp...I'll call
59's if you want a little thump
Jazz set if you want Full Shred sort of tone with less oomph from the pickups.

Black Winter set, no question. They'll give you all the black/death metal tones you want, they split super-well, and they are surprisingly versatile.

I'll have to check them out. Thanks everyone for the opinions, and suggestions. I've gotten some great responses and a few things to think about. Maybe a hotter set and backing off the gain. Maybe a set that might not be considered a "Metal" set but more versatile.

You're right, you have different ways you can go and if you're looking to go "less output" then the Winters are obviously not the right choice. But I still think you wouldn't regret putting Winters in this guitar. It is amazing how well they can do non-metal styles besides absolutely crush all the kvlt black metal stuff without breaking a sweat. They are very responsive to tone and volume knob adjustment but somehow manage to sound like themselves no matter where you are on each dial. In middle position with both pickups split, they produce some excellent Stratty tones. Anyhow, let us know what you decide!

@weepingminotaur

Thanks, I'll let you know. I've not really been happy with these pickups since I got this guitar. It just seems to be lacking. I've actually fell in love with my Jackson RR Professional all over again. I usually play my Les Paul's a'la Euronymous, but that RR is just,....wow. I really want to love that BC Rich, the neck is great. It almost plays itself. I've got the same guitar in a double neck too. So whatever goes in there, is going in the other.

The exception being the Lace Deathbucker. Lots of power but very clean and defined. Even with a crapton of gain. I've found them almost impossible to mud up.

Those seem an interesting option. $230 is not a bad price for a full set. It also boasts active performance, in a passive pickup. It says they only require 250k pots, and are four wire, and can coil split which would utilize the electronics of the guitar. Thanks for the tip, worth looking into.

"There is no volume drop in split mode and working as a single coil; noise is virtually eliminated in comparison to standard old style humbucker designs."

You want the Black Winters. ;)

Out of the ones I've tried thus far, my go-to moderate output metal pickups would be the DiMarzio Imperiums. But they have a quite modern sound to them (Dave Davidson/Revocation sig set), so it might not be your cup o' tea.

Any suggestions are a good place to start. I've been fortune my last few guitars, so I haven't had to replace pickups in a while. suggestions are a good place to start. I've been fortune my last few guitars, so I haven't had to replace pickups in a while. My 1999 Les Paul Classic came with 500T/496R set. They sound great, and are an all around high output pickup. It gets the "Deathcrush" sound to a tee. Euronymous played a Standard so it definitely does an accurate depiction. My 2015 Traditional came with Antiquities, and a vintage wiring kit. My V came with an X2N, and a SD Jazz in the neck. The Jackson has SD JB Set as standard fare. I think the last pickup replacement I did was putting an Invader into an 1986 NJ Bich. That was more than 20 years ago. The BC Rich King V I sold had a transparent black top (quilted) with the KFK Emg Set, with booster switch. I never really liked the EMGs. I was running a ADA MP-1 at the time, and liked the sound of passive pickups better through it. With the gain turned to 7.5, and raised mids, highs, and lowered bass passive pickups gave me that "Wrath of the Tyrant's" sound.

Those are essentially Duncan Distortions...at least the bridge is.

Nice. I've never really liked DiMarzio SD pickups, only because I've always felt the pole pieces are too small. I've always liked the screws better, more surface area. If I use a DiMarzio I prefer an X2N
