bd-2/\sd-1/\od-3

Re: bd-2/\sd-1/\od-3

im trying to decide between a keeley modded bd-2, a keeley modded sd-1, some other modded sd-1 on ebay, or a stock od-3.

Re: bd-2/\sd-1/\od-3

if you play blues rock the BD-2 all the way i love that pedal its very smooth and still has plenty of gain does a good SRV and Allman Bros thing

Re: bd-2/\sd-1/\od-3

i've found stock bd-2's to be sort of harsh actually, if you're a rock player, this can be modded to your advantage

but for what you're describing, prolly an sd-1

Re: bd-2/\sd-1/\od-3

I haven't tried the OD-3, but I've found that the other two pedals tend to color you sound just a bit. Just a little, but still noticeably, so if you're the kinda guy who likes more of a natural tone, I don't know if they'd be your thing. I'm still trying to find that perfect OD pedal myself.

Re: bd-2/\sd-1/\od-3

The Boss SD-1; hands down.

I own all three currently. The BD-2 is a runner-up....but I find it tends to color the signal alot more artificially than the SD-1.

Some days the BD-2 sounds better than my Wasabi or the Tube Screamer or vice versa. But I'm yet to have a day when anything sounds better than the Super Overdrive.

but then again, every sd-1 mod seems to try to make it into a tubescreamer, and it sounds cliche. what do u guys think?

thanks

I much prefer the stock sound of the SD-1 than the Tube Screamer. It's a personal preference thing though. The Tube Screamer's a great pedal but to my ears it's very generic sounding. Much of this may have to do with it being the de facto standard for Overdrive pedals. But I personally find the SD-1 to be just a touch warmer and bigger sounding with the Gain up and more transparent when it's turned down.

The best advice I can give is to try them all and see what your ears think. I thought the BD-2 was the end all be all. I only came across the SD-1 when I picked it up for $20 at a yard sale. I mostly intended to sell it for profit but after playing it for a few rehearsals it became my fave pedal.
