BE RUTHLESS WITH ME!!!

So I received the Torpedo C.A.B. M+ (which was decided upon by the kind help of some of yous on here) and figured I'll try and put it to a test. Didn't want to waste time with writing (good excuse, huh? lol ) , so I went with a cover of HeXeN's Blast Radius. It's kinda fitting too, because after a long hiatus it looks they are together and making music again. And I also promised some more samples of the Black Cat Djenttonic pedal

The guitar is an E-II Horizon NT-7 w/ Evertune, but swapped the 85 into the bridge position, b/c I just couldn't stand the 81 in this guitar (waaaay too bright and thin. Even for an 81). Revv G8 gate, Black Cat Djenttonic for dirt, Torpedo C.A.B. M+, Focusrite Clarett 2Pre.

I used the Torpedo's preamp and power amp (push-pull 6L6 in pentode mode. Whatever the heck that means) sim, on the left a Mesa Recto Trad 412, on the right Hesu 212 (the one Ola Englund shared in one of his videos). Tiny bit of EQ on the Mesa, nothing on the Hesu.

Definitely not one take, the more tired I got the more I had to rework things. No solo, maybe next time. And I couldn't get a part in the middle right for the life of me, so phoned in a riff to go with the other guitar. There was a weird clicking noise in the background constantly, which messed up my timing. Sorry about that, not my fault. LOL But at least my sloppy playing makes for a nice reverb when tracking with two guitars...

The guitars are deliberately a bit loud, as I intend this to be a part of my Torpedo review. Any and all opinions, observations and profanities are welcome

I got this blasting through my JBL Studio monitors it sounds awesome. It is a very wide-sounding nice job on the mix.

Sounds good to me. Maybe the drums are little quiet.

IME an odd clicking noise in your audio signal could indicate your digital clocks are not in synch, like either two devices are trying to be the master clock, or the master can't communicate with one of the slave devices. There are other possibilities, but that's what struck me by the description.

That was just a bad joke at me not being spot on with the metronome... :D:D:D

Sounds good here.

First several bars reminds me of Doom's (PC game) music.

Isn't the CAB M+ awesome?

It is freaking AWESOME. The only thing I regret about it is that I waited too long to get it and spent too much time and resources trying out other alternatives. Keep in mind I'm still in honeymoon phase and never tried Kemper/AxeFX stuff but right now I'd say this is the first time that I dont feel like "yeah, pretty good for a plugin" but rather I feel like I could mistake this for the real thing.

Sounds good. Remember that when you're mixing, frequencies are cumulative. That's why using a lo cut when recording a track is useful. When you finally mix all the tracks, the bass frequencies will be tighter overall and still quite present.

Sounds generally brutally awesome to me....

But you wanted ruthless.
1. What the hell is that little shriek at 1:10. Happens like four times. Intentional? I need a little more thematically used.
2. Too much fuzz. I'd like just a little tighter/crunchier tone. Don't get rid of the fundamental sound. Maybe mix in a crunchy AF Marshall 800 through a 4x10 cab, not too dirty, for a little clarity lift.
3. Agree on the drums, but instead of lifting the whole track, try a little tight eq boost on the bass and snap frequencies, and maybe the hats. Jut get those to pop, but don't step all over the guitar.

I've listened to it twice so far, so there is that....

1: The "shriek" is pinched harmonic. :) The original song had it too, so I thought why not. It sounds weird b/c of the Evertune: I was too lazy to set it up to allow for a little vibrato on that string. By the time it started to bug me I wasn't gonna re-record...
2: And the gain wasn't even dimed...lol Agreed though, a little less would be better.
3: Agreed. I should've bounced each component of the drumkit to separate tracks to lift only the hats and bass only, butnit seemed like too much hassle for my skills. It is a midi file exported from guitar pro driving EZ Drummer 2 . Tried to boost the freq I thought was the bassdrum, but any more would've driven the mix into clipping. So I either back the guitars off a bit or bounce at least the bassdrum to a separate track. Will try!

Yeah, I was too much of a guitar player when mixing... LoL I did cut a litte bass on the Mesa IR track b/c that was a bit to much even for me, but the other is completely "un-EQ'd"... Will try and cut a little from that too, maybe that'll let the bassdrum have a little more space too.

Bass frequencies add up quick. And they contribute to a boomy bottom end. It's counterintuitive to cut bass frequencies when you want to sound heavy. But they add up quickly when you are mixing tracks. Best to save the super lows for the kick drum.

First it conjures up 'Master of Puppets', then a few seconds later 'For Whom the Bell Tolls', then I couldn't care less but I get the impression of 1988 Metallica is at the center.

The transition at 0:31 was pretty rough, more like a patchwork of snippets rather than fusion. You might want to work on that, but I don't give an f really. Who am I kidding...you are metal player not a jazz musician so I cut you some slack. But really, it would bother me if this was my song.

Good ears. (If you mean how to takes are merged.) But like I said: not one take. I am coming out of a tendonitis realted issue with my hand and after the all downpicked intro part I just couldn't hit that first palm muted gallop clean enough, so there is definitely a cut there. Will try to clean that up!

If its a remark aimed at the composition, than each to his own I guess. Again: not my song, it is a "cover" from a band called HeXeN. I always liked this song ever since I first heard it and still do. It was the first song I ever heard from this band and fell in love instantly . I kinda like how instead of speeding up after the intro it drops into this sort of half time feel.
