What you guys know about bean guitars? Do any of you own one or know someone who does? How do they sound, and hows the action? Basicly how do they play? Let me hear from you with any and all details......

Re: Bean Guitars

no experience with them whatsoever. look pretty nifty though.

Re: Bean Guitars

Usually koa bodies, aluminum necks. Many felt the aluminum necks were uncomfortable since they felt cold (temperature wise) in the hand. I read somewhere the owners eventually started Kramer guitars, favoring wooden rather tahn aluminum necks, and phased out Travis Bean.

The company was resurrected as Vaccaro guitars, but that didn't last.

Re: Bean Guitars

Jerry Garcia was a big proponent of TB guitars
Joe Perry used one for slide for years
Stanley Jordan used to use them, don't know now.
After the first run, I think they eventually put wooden veneer strips on the back of the neck, to make them feel more traditional.
I think their bass guitars where popular for a time.

Re: Bean Guitars

Steve Albini used them as well, I believe.

They've always looked awesome to me but they're pretty pricey.

Re: Bean Guitars

I have a friedn that has a TB-1000 and I have played it several times.

If the necks are straight they are great playing guitars and solid as a rock...the necks are cold but if you can get past that they are fine.

However it does happen now and then that the necks will twist or warp and that sucks...having them straightened back out is costly and most guitar techs won't even mess with them.
