Beautiful Girls (VH 2)

hi,

let's say I got the gear and the chops...

which bridge humbucker would be best for a foolish attempt at getting the tone Eddie had on Beautiful Girls?

I'm probably in a minority, but I think this song has the best guitar tone I've ever heard on tape (and I'm an 48yo fart). not just the soloing, but his rhythm riffing and harmonics...his tone is so spongy and articulate and ON FIRE :firedevil

thanks!

Re: Beautiful Girls (VH 2)

the guitar I'd like to use is a Wayne Rock Legend. I took out the JB and put it in another guitar (BC Rich '88 USA Assassin)

I got 3 half-stacks, a VHT Pittbull UL, Marshall 2100 SL-X (w/ Soldano HotMod and 6550's), and I recently bought a Marshall '68 100w Plexi that's had a MV and f/x loop installed.

Using the Plexi and a Flying V with a Duncan '59, I can get pretty damn close, but the tone reminds me more of Hot for Teacher. I tried the JB, but it didn't cut it. (awesome Lynch/DeMartini tone, tho)

I'm also wondering if I should have the Plexi changed back to stock? the master volume is pretty nice, but aren't these an insult to Plexi amps? this is also my first real experience with EL34 tubes. I've always been fond of 6550 glass.

thanks!

Re: Beautiful Girls (VH 2)

The best choice would be the custom shop EVH...the second best choice would be a '59 in which the A5 magnet has been replaced with an A2 or A3 magnet.

Re: Beautiful Girls (VH 2)

tried a variac yet? ... dial it back to about 100 VAC and see if that helps? ... it's hell on tube life, but it's how he did it

as for pups, a '59 maybe? (or the custom shop EVH - but i suppose that's too obvious)

good luck

Re: Beautiful Girls (VH 2)

The pickups I've got the closest to VH tone with are
EVH
59
Custom 5 because its like a 59 with bigger/tighter lows that hits a vintage Marshall harder.
Custom Custom A bit of a later VH sound, but real big sounding.

wow put EVH on a thread and the sharks started circling, this is a cool phenomenon!
