Beer Spilled on Amp

A couple nights ago while jamming, I managed to knock a beer that was sitting on my Fender DeVille, and it fell down into the guts of my amp. I cleaned it out pretty well and let it sit. It didn't work at first, but after it sat for a few hours it made noise, and still does so. It runs quietly though. Maxing the volume knob gives me a volume that's equal to having it on about 3 (prior to the spill), but incredibly distorted. I did a little searching around but couldn't find much on this issue, other than that it's probably an issue with the power tubes. Am I right in assuming that's my issue? Or are there other things I should check out?

It also smells a bit funky when turned on. The odor isn't as apparent as it was before, but it's noticeable if you're looking for it.

Thanks

Not to be a smart-a$$,but that's what tables/floors are for.
I never put any liquids within spill reach,& I've had an ART X-15 crap out when playing outside during a storm,it got wet & died.

Good Luck, tho, hope it works out for you.

yea.. i never put any bottles of liquid on my amps.. pc.. or on right side of the computer desk.. Damn top grill and exhaust fans of the PC is just a drop away..lol

Re: Beer Spilled on Amp

The beer probably went many places. When the tubes get hot, you smell the evaporation.
Also.....beer is conductive. If it got Inside the pots (volume pot) it can Decrease the resistance by a large amount.
You probably need to clean the pots.
good luck

Cleaning, drying and patience.

Considering the potentially lethal voltages inside valve amplification, the bench charges of a qualified technician must be cheaper than the alternative.

I had more than one person (including the lamebrain bass player) put open beers on my Bogner XTC at gigs. :gurmpy:

Re: Beer Spilled on Amp

If the beer hit the tubes when they were hot, bad things happened.

I spilled a beer into a Mesa Road King once.

Once.

It toasted all kinds of things inside. A very expensive and inconvenient lesson to learn.

Don't waste tubes in coming to the inevitable realization that your problem with the amp is more than just tubes. It's more than just tubes. Take it to a tech.
