Before I sqeeze the trigger (6505+)

I'm ready to buy the Peavey 6505+ 112 60w combo. Been listening and researching for awhile now. I had the head a few years ago and loved it, but it's way to much for what I need it for.

Question is, is there anything else I should take a hard look at before going through with this purchase? I've been pointed in the direction of the Randall Diavlo, anything else???

I play hard rock to metal, I want something all tube and I don't mind tinkering and swapping out parts. My budget is 4-500 US. Appreciate all your guys wisdom!
Thanks!!

Re: Before I sqeeze the trigger (6505+)

it is my understanding that the combo doesn't sound like the head

Re: Before I sqeeze the trigger (6505+)

If the 6505 head was too much, it's likely that the 60W combo will be too much as well. Also, depending on cabinet construction the sounds may not be all that similar.

The only way to know for sure is to play the amp you're considering at the volume you'll be able to use it at. Anything else is just a guess.

Re: Before I sqeeze the trigger (6505+)

I should clarify, I played the head through a 4x12 cab with V30's.... that was a lil much =P. I'm 90% sure I'll be replacing the 1x12 if an Eminence Governor. Also those Bugeras seem to have a few QC oddities so that leaves me to buy from a retailer rather than new. Peaveys quality speaks for itself.

Never played a Carvin, I'll look into it. Thanks!

EDIT: Think those are a little out of reach and availability.

I understand what you're saying, but if the head & 4x12 was too loud the combo probably will be too. The Governor isn't the loudest speaker you can get, but it's pretty loud. The difference between 1 speaker and 4 isn't louder, it's just wider coverage.

I think in your budget you're making a wise choice. I played one and it was a nice amp it's just kinda of a one trick pony. It's a hard rock and metal amp. It's also loud as hell, take that into consideration if you can't play loud all the time.

Re: Before I sqeeze the trigger (6505+)

I'm all about the one trick pony for this beast. I have another amp for my cleans and bluesy stuff. I'm wanting this just for my metal setup and for playing with others. My deal fell through so now I've got to hunt down another one.
