I got a Gibson 490R in the neck of my Epi LP that sounded horrible when overdriven as a standard humbucker. By re-soldering it to "parallel" wiring, the tone cleaned up beautifully! Cleaner/less ouput/more "airy"! I have no intention to add extra push/pull pots or switches. This was a last ditch effort to keep me from throwing this pickup out the window.
Pros:
It is still "humbucking" in parallel wiring mode!
More power than a "coil split". :smokin:
It costs $0.00 to do, and cheaper than a different pickup.
Cons: 0
Is there an Invader or other pickups collecting dust in a drawer because the standard humbucker wiring sounded "too dark" to the player? I just wanted to stress that you don't have to have a gang of switches, or follow the standard wiring configuration to get a new perspective on your gear.
