Behringer is known for releasing near carbon copies of popular products (cosmetically speaking, not functionally usually) for lower prices. For example, at the last NAMM they unveiled a new line of stompboxes that looked EXACTLY like Boss's line of pedals. Same size, shape, box design, fonts for the writing, even the colors were appropriate for the pedals (green = phaser, white = tuner, orange = distortion, purple = flanger, etc.).

No Idea myself.... I have found that Berhinger offer some good stuff for Cheap..... It is not the best quality stuff out there but for the money they seem to do alright on some things. I own a little practice amp and a 10 channel mixer and they are ok for what i use them for.... Their little $200 Berhinger practice amps can be kind of fun..... It's amazing how much bottom end they can have.... I'm not talking about the digital amps i'm talking about the solid state Vintager amp i have. Can have that AC/DC OD sound with almost a 4x12 bottom end to it.... Great $200 amp but it is a toy....

The V-Amp2 sounds as good as the POD 2.0, and is in the same price group as Zoom products, which Behringer is far superior to.

I don't have one but I was impressed with the V-Amp 2 too. As far as ethics, I'm content to let the law sort that out.

I honestly don't think Behringer is stepping on many toes, as most Behringer buyers probably can't afford the more expensive stuff, so if they weren't buying Behringer, they wouldn't be buying Boss, Line 6 or whoever.

Somebody needs to act their own age.
Frankly, I think it's not a black-and-white issue of whether what Behringer's doing should be allowed or not. I think that either way, they're not that reliable, even if they are high-quality. So, it's good to get introduced to the world of higher quality stuff from a lower quality company. However, I think that it's wrong of them to act like they're not direct copies. At least give the original maker credit. That's why companies have R&D departments. If it keeps on going like this, pretty soon no one'll want to make original stuff, since it's "more cost effective" to copy someone else's design, and we'll be stuck with the same trite technology. We should be taking advantage of advancements in technology.

Seing how many young beginners can't afford a decent practice amp and guitar here in Hungary, I'm with Behringer and all the cheap chinese brands. At the forum of my fav guitar shop every second poster asks questions like 'I only have $** left of my pocket money but would like to buy an amp to play my very first guitar I've just bought for $150.' It's actually nice to see that there's a better solution than answering 'save up for some months or years, and get a XY'. Behringer and some chinese brands offer much better small practice amps than the big brands do with their 'affordable' series even for a bit more money. If it needs copying designs, so be it.
