Best American Acoustic Bang for the Buck?

Martin D-15. What an axe. The smell of that guitar gives me a stiffy. Made in America, what are they priced? 600 or less? I can't remember what I paid. I know the Martin label on the headstock is a sticker, but I can't find one thing wrong with this guitar.

Okay, so it's solid Mahogany all the way around, it's slightly darker than most acoustics, but I just love it's tone, feel and (smell!).

Tell me one MIA Acoustic that is a better bang for the buck, please!

You Nailed it, Scott.
The D-15 is a Very Fine Guitar.

For the money, I haven't seen anything under $1,000 that's better than a Martin D-15!

I like some of the 00 and 000 models, like this 000-16K2:

@ musiciansfriend if your not an all mahogany guy (me, especially for d-style guitars)
Those Special edition one's with the spruce top and solid mahogany/rosewood back/sides. I think it's 700-800$.

Best bang for buck "Martin" I played was a DM, then the 000m. I love the DM, I don't care if it's laminate sides/back it sounds great, and for the price I like it better than some of the higher end martins

Re: Best American Acoustic Bang for the Buck?

Seagull guitars just OWN, imo. I've never tried one I didn't like. I think it's largely due to the use of the Cherry wood that they use (right between maple and mohog soundwise) for the backs and sides of a lot of them. Plus the necks are more like thinner Les Pauls so they're easy to manuver on. I'd take one of those over a Martin any day. They're Canadian (made by the same company that makes Godin) though but DAYEM theys good!

Re: Best American Acoustic Bang for the Buck?

I have a Martin D2R that is great. Acoustics are funny...if you find the right one, a moderately-priced one can sound better than an expensive one.

Re: Best American Acoustic Bang for the Buck?

I have 2 Martins: '72 D35 and '72 D12-35. They sound great, but there are some inexpensive models (i.e. D15) that sound just as good.

Re: Best American Acoustic Bang for the Buck?

I think the best bang for buck acoustic is the Martin DR, which isn't always stocked at stores. It gives the D-28 such a run for it's money that they prefer to stock the DM instead. The DR means Dreadnaught Rosewood, and it's basically like a highend Martin, except that the rosewood is laminated, not solid. Tonewise, you really can't tell the difference. I think they're around $900 new, but I see them as low as $600 used in mint cond. I sold my gorgeous sounding DR and upgraded to a D-28 and can honestly say they're apples and oranges, but equally great.

You can get a Tacoma with solid woods and no electronics for way under a grand. I like their bridge design. :burnout:

I can't believe no one's mentioned the Taylor Big Baby. They're awsome, solid top, ebony fretboard, made in california, for $350 w/ bag at GC
