Hey all,
It looks like in June, I'll be able to get a sweet new amp. I like the Vox AD30VT, but I always knew it wasn't going to be my main amp for long, I miss ma tubes!
So I had a bunch of options on me' mind, and seeing as how I've not played many of these amps (just read things and heard clips) and I believe a lot of you might have, I figured I'd ask. My requirements:
1.) Tube
2.) Not very loud (preferably under 30 watts or so)
3.) Compact (all the heads WILL be run with a 1x12 Cabinet)
4.) Cleans - Fendery-sparkle, deep but not flubby or muddy
5.) Dirties - willing to use an OD pedal, no need for high gain, bluesy John Mayer-ish tones, Santana with little more dirt to it, still singing and smooth though. Can't stand mud, can't stand harshness in the highs: I like balance. As close to this as I can get, it's probably a bit impossible to get this in one amp.
All of these can EASILY be bent. Here are the amps I've looked at (on the net, mind you)...
1 - Old Fender head + OD pedal...breaks the wattage rule, but I love Fender cleans and the pedal (not sure which) could make it perfect. Also cheaper then the others I'm looking at. However, may be too loud.
2 - Fuchs Lucky 7...as stated, I love Dumble-y dirty tones. This breaks up easier, so it may get me closer to that ideal-ish dirt. Loved the clips I heard, cleans are great. However, would it be too loud to get said dirt tones at a reasonable volume with no MV? Hot Plate time?
3 - THD Univalve...not too sure what this can do. I know the fixed bias deal is cool, mix and matching tubes and such. Need notes on this.
4 - Rivera Small combos, Pubster Clubster etc...supposed to Marshall and Fender in one box...can't beat that!
Also would love some opinions from ya'll.
I need this amp to be a keeper for a LONG time. Thanks!!!
