What do you think about the THD, Weber, Dr.Z and Ultimate?
I've read some articles where the Ultimate is considered to be the most transparent, the best sounding one.
I would use it with a Blackface Bassman head, any opinions?
Re: Best attenuator for Blackface Bassman: which of these?
A few weeksends ago I went nd tried all 3 of the attenuators you mentioned and to be honest I found them all 3 to be about the same! After tat I ordered a Weber 50 watt Mini mass and I also found it to be as good as the other 3 I had tried.
Now...if you are looking to get an attenuator to get full on distortion at low levers don't bother...you can use an attenuator to knock off a little volume but something thats real clean like a BF Bassman will not crunch out with an attenuator w/o the tone going to hell...if you are looking for distortion get a good sounding pedal and call it a day if you just need to knock the level down a bit get an attenuator.
As for which one I will tell you this...I liked the Hot Plate but it locks you into an impedence, the DR. Z was good as well and the "Ultimate Attenuator" was not worth the big price tag IMO...it sounded good but no better than thte DR. Z or the THD. Also, I really like my Weber Mini Mass!
