Best bridge pickup to pair with an Alnico II pro in the neck?

Hi, I have an Alnico II pro in the neck, which of the following would you recommend in the bridge?:
- Nazgul
- Pegasus
- Invader

What kind of music, which guitar and which tuning? Probably something heavy by what you’ve listed so far?

Welcome to the forum!

The Alnico II Pro is my favorite neck pickup. I pair it with the Custom Custom, or for something more balanced, the 59/Custom Hybrid.

Some people complain about the Custom Custom being loose in the low end. The pickups he listed are all pretty aggressive. If you have a lot of gain on tap, why not a medium output pickup with a modern voicing?

On your list the Pegasus but I'm not a fan of that pickup. I have a Alinco II paired with a Perpetual Burn in a guitar now and really like that combo. Also a Hybrid or Custom Custom works well.
I was surprised at how well the Burn and Alnico II matched in tone feel and output but in particular how they sounded together.

I disagree strongly about the Hybrid being more balanced than a Custom Custom. I like the Hybrid a lot in the right guitar but find it quite brash and aggressive in particular in the mids. The more balanced choice with a AlincoII II than ether is a Perpetual Burn. I Pulled a Burn in one guitar and replaced it with a Hybrid thinking it would be more balanced and then swapped them right back after finding it wasn't.

The CC is more in the same EQ range as the Alnico II Pro. It is 'balanced' there as the 2 pickups are EQ-similar. The Hybrid is the opposite EQ as the A2P. It is 'balanced' there as the 2 pickups give a better spectrum of EQ on the guitar.

I am also a fan of the Alnico II Pro and the Custom Custom combination . This is what I have in a a set neck mahogany.maple top archtop.

Nobody has mentioned the Alnico II bridge. I have a friend who for many years played professionally. Some years ago he put a complete set of Alnico II ( his version predates the Slash version) on his USA PRS and he sounds pretty amazing with that combination. Although he rarely plays without a pedal in the mix.

I'll go against the grain: Saturday Night Special. It's loud but not superhot, it's vocal but not mushy, it's tight but not shrill.

But from your list, the Pegasus. Slide out the A5, put in an A3 and you're ending up with a pickup that's a) less hot, more balanced, b) smoother highs, c) not as aggressive in the midrange, d), not as tight in the low end. Just saggy enough for it to be sweet & jiggly ;)

Think of the PegasusA3 as the Pearly Gates on steroids, with an extended high end.

I liked it anyway.

It would be a very vintage/modern combination, which I have to admit, I don't see much. Something like a Pegasus is ultra modern, and the Alnico II Pro tends to sound best with a completely different kind of gain. So an amp that is set for a very modern gain sound might sound a bit mushy with a pickup like Alnico II Pro.

Pair to what end? What goal?

I find that PG's and 59's are great pickups to "pair" with Customs and Distortions, but I like a screamer bridge and classic neck for a wide range....YMMV

I really wish people would clarify when they say Pair/Match/Go with etc.....

The choices in the OP are
- Nazgul
- Pegasus
- Invader

So it sounds like screamer in the bridge. I haven't used any of those three, so I can't say. Like Beer$ asked, if he's downtuned, that might make a difference also.
