Any thoughts ? DD, JB, C5, Deamon, Custom, CC, FS, Dime, whitch one ? I play through a Hi-Gain amp/ Crate GT1200H 120wtt. 1/2 stack, 2 Ibanez RG's. Im trying to find that 80s & 90s Metal tone.

Yeh, the JB and the DD seem to be the most used ones for metal. I just keep reading so much about the p/u's I listed above and wanted to know who used what and why. Thanks again Rid.

Ok this is my reply to your pickup query & I mean it- the best metal pickup is the one that works…

I have the following Duncans in my guitars & they can pull off metal tones easily because they have a good amp to complement their tone: Screamin’ Demon/ CC/ Invader/ Hot Rails

in fact, they don’t just do metal, they are very good fusion proponents too.

SH-5, the Versatility to cut anything metal, and the Balls to make people run for cover while you´re at it ;)

What do you guys think for a more modernized rock/metal tone.

I think a lot of the 80s metal was nasally.

I think that the JB still a good choice. My FS sounds great for newer rock/metal stuff. I think that the key to the more modern tones is your choice of amps/effects/settings. When switching over between Marshall and Mesas for example. For great 80's tone with lots of gain, I've liked Soldanos that I've heard better than most JCM 800s.

In short, the JB works great:D

I don't like my DD..lol..gettin' a JB installed this week in my esp actually

and I'm lookin' into an esp...going to go wtih the EC 1000..not sure if I'm gonna get that one with a JB or the emg 81's..emg's have great output, but they're a bit fizzy..no personality

Ya know, the other guitarist in my band uses 2 Custom Customs in the guitar he built, and it sounds very good ... a bit too bright and forward for my taste, but it has nice articuation.
