Best Equalizer Out There

Re: Best Equalizer Out There

I have the Boss GE7 - great pedal, other guys swear by it, but mine had noticeable noise. Crackling and popping whenever you stepped on it. Its my understanding that is not the norm so it might just be my pedal.

So, I got the MXR 10 band EQ. Great pedal, but I still haven't been able to dial in a tone that I like. Another thread in this room had me thinking this might be the fault of the poor choice in eq bands.

I thought the 10 band eq would sound better, give me more tonal options and be more flexible. Ironically, the 7 band boss pedal sounded better and did more to improve my tone. If it wasn't for the excess noise, I'd go back to the Boss.

+1 on the boss
I've been using the GE7 for several years .. ' love it to death' no pops , pings or otherwise...

Re: Best Equalizer Out There

I was never one for EQ until i got the Boss GE-7. Not a bad pedal stock, a little noisy when you push the gains up but EQ accentuate freq. that you boost so its understandable. I went to MonteAllums.com and got the kit for it. Fixed the noise issue and made it sound great for $20.

I'd give this a try when it comes out! I believe it's from MI Audio.

Re: Best Equalizer Out There

I have a Boss EQ-20 (10-band graphic) and an old PQ-3B (parametric for bass). Parametric EQs are fun to mess with, but in general, any EQ, regardless of what it's marketed for works great with guitar.

Hm. Price is no concern. So then:

It's not the best but it's still a superb tube EQ I have experience with, it made wonders on my guitar tone in the studio - but hey would someone really spend so much for a stellar EQ? :?:

An another one, for the fracture:

The quality of any stombpbox and this dbx EQ (approx. for the price of a stompbox) - they are not in the same Universe. I've had GE7 as well but this one immensely outperformed the Boss.
