Best Guitar Under $400...

Re: Best Guitar Under $400...

Heu guys, thanks for all the feedback. I really appreciate it. I have been going round and round with a lot of ideas. I am more of a classic/traditional guy. I was looking for something that I could get for $400 or less. I want to fix it up and install a set of killer Duncans and start ripping. This is what I got... Don't laugh too hard....

I really wanted the RL-3 but it's more than I can spend right now....

Re: Best Guitar Under $400...

I was really suprised when I picked that one up. It really felt nice. I like a thicker body but I don't an Epi or a Gibson. I like the little bit of difference in it. I'll probably end up installing either a C5/59 set or JB/Jazz set...

Re: Best Guitar Under $400...

Best is certainly subjective. If you want versatility and superb quality control, look no further than a Pacifica 612. Flamed maple top, high quality fretwork and Seymour’s JB in the bridge! You can’t go wrong with these Fender beaters.:smash:

Hey, ya know, if it plays well, and you like the tone, sounds like you got a deal! It's a nice looking instrument.

Re: Best Guitar Under $400...

i'm not afraid to buy any brand if it feels and sounds good to me....that's all that matters! i'm glad you got a guitar that you like in your price range Butch!!!

give us another review when you get further down the road with it?!

i played an Aria Pro II LP type guitar the other day in trans black and it felt really good...i didn't plug it in, but i knew the pups would be irrelevant. it was used and the guy said he'd take $350 for it...i think it was a good price for it and i would have considered it had i not already bought a schecter.

anyways, congrats and have fun with yours!

Re: Best Guitar Under $400...

Seeing how Samick makes the majority of the world's (imported) guitars, we've all had one at one time or another ;)

Those Greg Bennett's are pretty kickass. Enjoy!

Re: Best Guitar Under $400...

Well, the Samick is going back... Bad toggle and I just miss the Tele vibe that I have come to know and love.... I'm thinking about either a MIM Standard and replace the electronics or a used 69 Thinline in surf green... I'm sorry to be so fickle...

Re: Best Guitar Under $400...

Butch,

My Korean Tokai Tele is just spectacular. Neck is better than the USA 62 RI I sold right before I got this one. I have ordered two of these and they both were perfect in terms of set up and playability. LIke em much better than the lower end Fenders. Less neck issues, esp frets. Yes you will need pickups but outside of that mine is stage ready. If you hit my link you can hear it in action on my song Fat JoJo.

I LOVE IT!!

don't be sorry...you like what you like...and that's that!

Re: Best Guitar Under $400...

i just got a Tokai Loverock from that seller and its a great guitar all around, no matter where it was made, or what it costs........ i bet the Teles are just the same

Re: Best Guitar Under $400...

Thanks Kev... That one looks very nice....

I plugged in the Samick and it was like a diamond in the rough. I love the way it looks; like a Les Paul - but not. The neck needs adjusting. The strings need to be changed from 9's to 11's. It's a 24 3/4" scale. The toggle switch needs to be replaced. That's a warranty thing. The pickups? Well, they feedback pretty bad. I have decided that a C5/59 set is going to be the way to go. I'll probably do the set in zebra. The guitar just feels so chunky and thick... Like my favorite peanut butter...

Re: Best Guitar Under $400...

Oooh. I don't think I've seen that one before. Point me towards one of those for under $400 and I might have som tough decisions to make...

Re: Best Guitar Under $400...

Personally, I think you should dig up another $100 and search the used market for an American Strat or Tele for around $500. There's so many in circulation that you're bound to run across a desperate seller, and pick up a nice alder or ash with maple neck. Leave the stock pups in it till you can pickup a Twangbanger and SSL's. You'll be happier in the long run IMO.
