Best guitar with thick neck.

I'm looking for a 6 string guitar primarily for modern thrash/metalcore. Preferably active pickups (want to put emg 57/66 pickups in). After playing a few les pauls I realized I really like their tone and feel, especially the neck. I was used to Ibanez wizard necks and it seems like thicker necks are better suited for my hands and style of play. I write/play fast prog thrash rhythm very similar to sylosis. I'm looking into an epiphone les paul prophecy ex. Seems like a hell of a guitar. Any suggestions or opinions are appreciated.

Lots of the PRS SE models I've tried have beefy necks. Same with a bunch of different Schecters, at least relative to your typical metal-leaning guitars.

do you know of any models in particular? I've played a hellraiser but not a prs.

I don't know that you can do much better than a Les Paul for what you've described.

Well the les paul I'm looking at is built specifically for metal. Look up the Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy Ex.

Yeah I've seen them. Essentially, they're just Les Pauls with EMGs and 24 frets. I've played the GX versions (with Gibson Hbuckers) and I liked it enough.

Ebony fretboards and different paint jobs and neck finishes too

You just might be a mockingbird man. Several of the BCR models (maybe all for that matter) have modestly meaty necks and wide boards, and some like the m-bird are short-scale like the LPs, and can be had with stock emgs (81/85 though)

Most metal-oriented single cut guitars (LTD, Schecter, Ibanez) have beefy necks, 24 frets, longer scale (around 25") and ... EMG pups

You haven't given your budget.
My advice would be find a s/h Gibson LP Studio & put your HB's in that. It will be a better guitar than any epi.
I have both Epi & Gibson LP's the epi is of much lower quality made up of multiple pieces no real maple cap & poorer finish
Edwards & jap Tokai's are also worth checking out

Tokai's are definitely worth checking out. The Japanese ones for preference.

The Opeth PRS necks are pretty big. Years ago, I loved the Good Charlotte PRS SE, also with a huge neck.

Epiphone Brent Hinds Flying V signature model.

From what's been reported, it has a freaking HUGE neck, based on the '58 Flying V profile which apparently was freakishly fat.
Also brings Lace Sensor Hammer Claw humbuckers stock, whch might not be active but they should be great for your tone goals.

Are you talking width or depth?
If its depth,try a PRS Bernie Marsden.
There's half a tree in every neck!
they have 24.5" scale length.
Throw in your EMG's and you're set.

I think this is all relative.

Pretty much every guitar so far mentioned is what I consider puny (schecter, esp, epiphone, etc) to medium, at best (prs wide/fat, mij 59 profiles, both of which just have big shoulders , not all that thick).

Thick neck= 2014 Gibson Trads, and Custom shop r6/7/8. Some Fender RI Broad/Tele/Nocaster necks are fairly chunk.

My budget is $800 or $900 absolute max. I've also looked at the matt heavy signature les paul which is on most peoples best metal guitars under $1000. He actually played the epiphone version so he made sure it was of high quality. I've also always like those mockingbirds ^, but I feel like the quality of most bc rich's I've played = ****. The deans I've played have all been cheap besides the razorback which is super uncomfortable to play sitting down. I've considered a Gibson but I would have to reroute it for active pickups which is way more hassle and cost than I'm looking for. I'd already be dropping $250 for the pickups and a good chunk of money for a used studio.

i am in absolute love Love LOVE with my Epiphone 58 korina explorer
it has the fattest neck of any of my guitars: korean LTD 400VF, Jap-Jackson DKMG

did i mention i LOVE the fat Epiphone explorer neck?

If you want quality and tone over budget, buy a used PRS McCarty, and install hotter pickups like a Custom/WLH neck.

You'll have a high quality fat necked tone monster.

I have the 7 string Matt Heafy guitar and can attest that it is a baseball bat of a neck.

I'd look at Schecter or B.C. Rich if you are on a tight budget.
