'Best' Heavy Metal/Hard Rock Speaker!!!!

Who swears by a speaker (or know someone who does) for a, prefferably, aggressive speaker that is great for articulation, power chords and for lead guitar. Not crazy bass, but something for my style which is Heavy Rock with a heaping spill of distortion... btw, I only do distortion so it does not have to be versatile necessarily.

Tommarrow, I'm gonna install a Celestion Vintage 30 and try that out, on loan, and see if that'll do, cuz I know by soundclips it can be aggressive and that's what I'm looking for.

It would help if you've been using your speaker recommendation for a few years, that's so I can feel like you know how well it worked (or works) for you.

Thanks for your replys.

The Emminence Manowar and Govenor in an X pattern is great, as are the Celestion G12H30 is great, too.

Edit - forgot the "30"

I prefer Celestion Vin 30's, and it's been the industry standard for a long time.
From what everyone says, Vintage 30's mixed with G12H30's is the way to go, so I'll have to try it eventually.

V30 = perfect clarity, cut, definition, a tightness for playing metal.

Those are my two favorite Celestions.

They sound very differant in open back combo amps than they do in sealed four x 12 Marshall bottems though.

The Vintage 30 can be a little bright in a combo amp (although I love it in a combo amp...) but has alot more bass in a four x 12.

The Greenback G12M25 has alot more bass in a four x 12 too.

Rockdrivers, controlled bottom end, smooth mids that cut and tight as hell.

Vintage 30 is my favorite speaker. Especially for rock.

Re: 'Best' Heavy Metal/Hard Rock Speaker!!!!

vintage 30 seems to be the standard. I like the eminence governor a bit more though...the v30 can be a little harsh to my ears.

Re: 'Best' Heavy Metal/Hard Rock Speaker!!!!

Vintage 30s aer great for that, but from what I've heard the G12H30 should be cool too, especially in a mix with the V30s like GJ mentioned

Actually that's a good discription of the Vintage 30.

How about the Celestion Gt12-65?? I have these in my early 1980's Marshall cab, and with my JCM800 cranked through it, its Metal heaven!
