Best HSS setup

A while ago, I was given a piece of s**t Ibanez Gio GSA60. The pickups and wiring are pretty much garbage, so I want to basically tear it apart and re-do all of the electronics. Could I get some suggestions for pickup combinations (humbucker in the bridge and two single coils) for just a strat-like HSS setup?

Re: Best HSS setup

No offense, but if the guitar is S@#$, then why bother? I mean you would put double or more into the guitar than what it is worth for a good pickup configuration. You may want to go with a pre-loaded pickguard (if it fits) from a company like GFS or MOJOtone.

Re: Best HSS setup

A used JB and two used Fender singles, whatever you can find cheap from a non-squier source. Budget like 70 bucks total, no more.

CS69's are the bees knees, BUT...no point in spending 250 bucks on pickups for that thing, imho

Good point. Bad wording on my part. The guitar itself is fine (body, neck, tuning machines, trem) but the electronics are shot. I'll look into loaded pickguards.

Don't

99% sure there's no GIO with anything remotely like a Fender guard shape, and 100% there's no loaded pickguards that are any good for cheaper than the price of a used JB and a couple fender singles

Re: Best HSS setup

I've always liked the Duncan Custom Custom trembucker (SH-11) in HSS guitars. Find something slightly higher output, but not crazy, for the single coils to match volume levels. I think the single coils are where you can go cheaper.. maybe fender tex mex singles.

Re: Best HSS setup

Basically if you buy used you should be able to sell at around the same price. Go ahead and get like a used jb and whatever single coils you want used. Pop them in the next guitar you get or sell them later.
