Re: Best Jazz Amp

i dont know about 'best', but if you get a pignose g60 and throw a good speaker in there, it will definitely do jazz very well

Re: Best Jazz Amp

-Lot of guys use Polytones. They can be kinda sterile.
- Roland Jazz-chorus
- Standel
- the old Gibson EH amps are soooo warm & round.
- Some cats are now using this: Acoustic Image Clarus SLR
I think old Magnatones & supros are warmer than the old Fenders & might be better for what U are looking for.

Of course, lots of guys use the trusty Fender twin reverb.

Re: Best Jazz Amp

I actually played lots of Jazz, & had a ton of nice archtops over the years and crazily: the channel 1 on the Mesa Boogie mark IV, is one of the best jazz sounds I've ever heard.

bump :bigok: another part of tone is speaker size-10's verses 12's (inch speaker) I like the tone of 4-10 inch speakers togather in 1 speaker cab. some on this forum have realy like EV speakers for great Jazz tone as well. there are many to choose from and the right speaker combo can be as much as 40 to 50% of your tone. especially with clean Jazz tones. your gunna have to go to a big guitar shop and play some combo amps (speakers built into amp) most usually have 2-12 inch speakers or 4-10inch speakers built in or go play a great jazz amp head thru diff speaker cabs with different cominations of speakers and sizes although Roland Jazz chorus, Fender Twin, and a few Line 6 amps have good jazz tones if you want to minimize your equipment purchase. also a good jazz amp you can find used is a mesa boogie rocket 44 with 4-10"s. after you get your amp I would suggest a little secrete that will realy inhans your tone thats no longer much of a secrete its called the Robert Keely compressor peddle. it will realy improve your tone and alot of pro's use it. you can hear sound clips on his web site of this product just go to Robert Keeley and you'll find it. anyway good luck let us know what you came up with :beerchug:

Re: Best Jazz Amp

Personally, I like a Twin Reverb with two real good 12's for clean tones. Or a Pro Reverb.

Seafomer nailed it. Acoustic Image, Roland and the Polytones are three amps I was going to post, but he beat me to it :)

Re: Best Jazz Amp

how bout ultra sound or heritage amplifiers or the gibson eh amp

im looking for rich chord melody tone like johnny smith and jimmy bruno

Re: Best Jazz Amp

I'm gonna have to go with Lew on this one (AS USUAL LOL!), nothing beats a good ol' Twin. Smoothness, clarity, and headroom for days....

Re: Best Jazz Amp

If you don't need a lot of volume and want to save your back, then check out a blackface or silverface Princeton or Princeton Reverb. The nonreverb version stays clean nearly all the way up the volume dial, and has a warm and clear clean tone. The Weber 10F150T speaker is a tremendous tonal upgrade over the stock speakers to add low end and smooth mids and highs.

Re: Best Jazz Amp

Fuchs!?! For a much more modern jazz tone certainly. They are great but modelled after Dumbles as far as I can tell.

Polytones are very cool little Jazz amps too. The Roland JC's are great and very durable.

Re: Best Jazz Amp

That is a cool clip but the ODS-100 is modelled after a Dumble Overdrive Special not likely something that Joe Pass, Jimmy Bruno or Herb Ellis would be using to get their sound.

Jimmy had a deal with Fender for a while but I don't know what model he used, I am not much of a Jazzer . Something with a decent amount of clean headroom and a nice warm bottom end will suit you well. I know a few guys that have been using Gibson Goldtones lately which kind of surprised me because it's a great rocker. The old Gibson Lab Series work real well for Jazz also. Some of the GK stuff was pretty nice for it as well without breaking any banks.

Oops, I just responded to the title, I missed the specific examples. My apologies :smack:

Re: Best Jazz Amp

I just bought a SWR Strawberry Blonde, and it sounds great for clean electric in a jazz style setting. All I do is turn the tweeter off, set the EQ and enhancer circuit to where I like them, get a bit of reverb in it (it has a great spring reverb) adn have at it with my Phat Cat loaded Sheraton.

It sounds great, even turned to 10, which is pretty loud for a 1x10, 80 watt SS combo (sealed back).

See if you can try one out, you might like it.

Oh, yeah, it's an awesome acoustic amp too. :burnout:

Re: Best Jazz Amp

This may sound crazy, but the low input on the Marshall JMP is really warm and round and sounds great for jazz when using the bridge position of any guitar, check it out. I'd also go for a Fender Twin Amp, IMO any guitar with medium output humbuckers and a good Fender Amp sounds great for jazz.
