bump :bigok: another part of tone is speaker size-10's verses 12's (inch speaker) I like the tone of 4-10 inch speakers togather in 1 speaker cab. some on this forum have realy like EV speakers for great Jazz tone as well. there are many to choose from and the right speaker combo can be as much as 40 to 50% of your tone. especially with clean Jazz tones. your gunna have to go to a big guitar shop and play some combo amps (speakers built into amp) most usually have 2-12 inch speakers or 4-10inch speakers built in or go play a great jazz amp head thru diff speaker cabs with different cominations of speakers and sizes although Roland Jazz chorus, Fender Twin, and a few Line 6 amps have good jazz tones if you want to minimize your equipment purchase. also a good jazz amp you can find used is a mesa boogie rocket 44 with 4-10"s. after you get your amp I would suggest a little secrete that will realy inhans your tone thats no longer much of a secrete its called the Robert Keely compressor peddle. it will realy improve your tone and alot of pro's use it. you can hear sound clips on his web site of this product just go to Robert Keeley and you'll find it. anyway good luck let us know what you came up with :beerchug:seafoamer said:I actually played lots of Jazz, & had a ton of nice archtops over the years and crazily: the channel 1 on the Mesa Boogie mark IV, is one of the best jazz sounds I've ever heard.
seafoamer said:-Lot of guys use Polytones. They can be kinda sterile.
- Roland Jazz-chorus
- Standel
- the old Gibson EH amps are soooo warm & round.
- Some cats are now using this: Acoustic Image Clarus SLR
I think old Magnatones & supros are warmer than the old Fenders & might be better for what U are looking for.
Of course, lots of guys use the trusty Fender twin reverb.
