best neck pup to go with the CC?

alnico II pro?
pg neck?
this will be for lead tones ala gary moore, micheal schenker and cleans as well as splitting for strat tones
I want the neck pup to be like it was made for the CC like a matched set
real warm, fat but still have that humbucking bite just like the CC in the bridge
I was told that if a buy a full shred neck and install all screw poles it is perfect for a CC but is there anything stock that duncan makes?
the one thing i loved about the air zone/ air norton set is that they had perfect split tones and went well together but as main bridge and neck pups they were not for me
the CC is the ONLY pup that i keep coming back to in the bridge spot now i need its companion for the neck
(alder body strat style guitar with a rosewood fretboard and amps are the new 5150 III and a HW1959 slp marshall amp)

either of those would work. i prefer the extra top end of the pearly

I agree, they'd both work nice, I like the slightly creamy nature of the APH. Both are very sweet though.

lew i wanted to tell you that it turned out you were dead on about the "nanny voice" in most of the the dimarzio stuff.
every time i played leads i heard "oh Mr shefield" in that nasally whining voice!
when i play on the duncan CC's i hear no nasal congestion in the lead tone and they feel better under the fingers for some reason.

Isn't that funny? Some Dimarzio's do kinda sound like a Brooklyn or Bronx honk!

yeah it is because they insist on using that "wah in the middle" tone on most models and use that dual resonance design they are so proud of and they focus so much on guitars with floating trems which means they add more low mids and bass.
what i really hate is that i cant dial that NASAL NANNY sound out:banghead:

Hmmm. I had a CC in my Ibanez (soft maple body). Welcome to the forum! :D I had two Alnico II Pro Staggered single coils, and those worked good. Alder is supposed to be very balanced, esp. with rosewood fretboard, so I'd guess that a Jazz, '59, or Alnico II Pro. I have a '59 in a basswood/rosewood guitar, and it's got plenty of brightness, so that's an option. I've had a Jazz before, and it's very clear, less warm than the '59, and it will come across as brighter, while the '59 will come across as very warm and round. The Alnico II Pro would be my choice if the guitar is bright, so I'm wondering if that's your impression due to using the CC, or if you just like it.

Re: best neck pup to go with the CC?

I currently have a pg net with a cc. I think it works wonders.

Another set you might concider is also the cc with a 59n. I tried it out for a while, didnt work out for me in my dark sounding guitar, but for you, it might just work, if you want a little more depth. Be warned tho, it can turn muddy fast.

I love the 59n in the right guitar...a thin bodied twangy sounding ax like a Gibson SG for example which can use the lower end beef of the 59 to good advantage. But with the CC, the 59n seems a little to strong on the bass end of things.

The rock guys who play with a lot of grind or distortion all the time and rarely go for a clear tone don't seem to find the 59n muddy...but I do play with a clean tone on the neck pickup most of the time and sometimes the 59n is a little bit to bassy (or "muddy") for me...especially at higher gain settings or higher volumes.

The 59n is great at low volumes though...very jazzy in a Wes Montgomery sort of way.

PG RULES with A CC! And the way they combine is just awesome in terms of a balanced tone.

Re: best neck pup to go with the CC?

Another vote for the a2p here, that is what I have in my LP, sounds lovely and creamy. A good mix with the bite of the CC. But that PG has got me interested.

A ~8.00K PGb. I have 3 of them, one is 7.95K (double black), the second 8.00K (double cream) and a 8.10K (zebra).

I'd say these are the best noncustom shop neck pickups I have ever owned.

I want the neck pup to be like it was made for the CC like a matched set

1. choice: JazzB in neck
2. choice: Full Shred Neck
3. choice: PG neck

PS: I have a JazzB in the neck and a C5 in the bridge in a 335. Great combination!
