Best New Marshall?

I am about to buy a new Marshall halfstack. Been told alot of bad stuff about the Vintage Moderns and the JVM seems to be too complicated. I am considering a 2000 Dual Super Lead.

Can some of you please tell me what you think of tis amp?

Re: Best New Marshall?

If I had the money, and it had to be a Marshall, I'd go with the JVM.

What did you find complicated about it? I thought it was pretty straight forward for a 4 channel amp.

Re: Best New Marshall?

I have actually heard nothing but good things about the vintage modern, and some of it was from people who do not normally care for Marshall amps. I would suggest playing through one if you can before making up your mind.

Re: Best New Marshall?

2000's seem fizzy to me, they don't have that deep fried butter thing goin on like the older ones did

but if you're a metal player i guess it'd be good

Re: Best New Marshall?

I would TOTALLY buy the JVM if I had the cash. I think it's pretty straight forward, and I'd find the things I want most and program them to the Footswitch and rock on!!!!!!!

Re: Best New Marshall?

I would take the VM over the 2000 and the JVM over both. The VM sounds the best, but the JVM is the most versatile.

Re: Best New Marshall?

I have a DSL 50. Even though it has two channels (shared EQ) with an extra mode per channel I still call it a one trick pony. Sure, it may have 4 tricks but you can only use one at a time.

The problem is that with the shared EQ you can't get the channels to even out. Lets say you get a good tone going on the Classic channel and want to switch to the Ultra channel. The Ultra channel (while loud) is overall thinner sounding than the Classic channel and depending on how you've got the EQ set for one channel it won't work for the other.

Or lets say you get a good clean tone going from the Classic channel and want to engage that same channel (with the mode button) and get a crunch tone going. When going from one mode to the next on the same channel the increase in volume can knock a wall down.

The DSL's are also LOADED with treble. Even when turned way up it still seems rather excessive to me. Took quite a bit for me to calm it down.

Don't get me wrong, as it can produce some good sounds. You just have to find out which one of the 4 sounds will work best for you. If you are interested in that series of Marshall I would suggest you try one....try both channel, see how the EQ works, compare the channels and play that thing at the volume that you plan on using it at.

I just use mine with the Classic channel set to clean and use a stomp box for my overdriven sounds.

Hope this helps a bit.

Re: Best New Marshall?

so far i have liked the sounds of both the JVM and the VM. and have owned both in alittle over a week. the JVM could get some great sounds. my only problem was having to change the EQ for different sounding guitars. since you cant program the EQ in the midi patches. and that was too many knobs to tweak. i liked the sound of the VM and it was alot more simple to dial in. i would have kept it if the effects loop hadnt have crapped out on me. when it went out it messed with the sound of the whole amp. then the store told me about a few people bringing the JVM and VM back because of issues. it might be a good idea to wait awhile on one of those. to see if they get the problems worked out. i actauly like the DSL's pretty good.

Re: Best New Marshall?

If you know what the Vintage Modern is supposed to do before you test it, then there shouldn't be any disappointment.

Re: Best New Marshall?

I'm saying right now it's the Vintage Modern. I just played one at a local GC through the matching cab. I'm VERY impressed with it. I took my time playing with it and was able to dial in a great tone real easy. I have GAS for one now. It is what I was hoping for.
