Best Pickups for an Ash '72 Tele Thinline?

I am building a '72 tele thinline (semi hollow) out of ash. I'm gonna get a pickgaurd that holds regular sized humbuckers, and wanted to know what you all thought the best pickup combo would be. I will be playing a wide variety of music from post rock to post hardcore. Tunings from e standard to drop c.

I have heard good things about a jb in the bridge and a '59 in the neck.

Welcome to the forum!

Those are cool guitars, and for heavier music, a JB/59 combo is really good. Also look at the Custom or 59/Custom Hybrid for the bridge as other alternatives.

I have a set I like to put in thinline Teles (by that I mean I put it in one) the Alumitone Neck and Deathbucker Bridge. I've never tried them for drop tunings, but this is a very versatile setup. When I had it I played on 11's tuned to Eb, and it could definitely rock. I used it for mostly more modern styles of rock/metal, but it can definitely work for some of the older genres and styles. I then sold it to a guy who plays soley Jazz and Blues, so it can do those too.

The original guitar I put it in was 100% Paulownia, and I was led to them due to their lightness, as the guitar was a minimum weight effort. In the end it clocked at just under 4 pounds.

But keeping with SD I'd definitely second the classic 59/JB combo.

I'm a JB nut, so gotta give that a big plus, especially with ash. JBs split incredibly well, so you might want a mod to combine a single coil from the bridge with single coil from the neck for a more classic tele timbre.

59 in the neck could work considering ash isn't usually bass heavy, but I would consider the Jazz- I find it more flexible.

And if you want a completely different approach, I'm working on a Ibanez thin line with multiple pickguards (first variation = 3 jazzmaster pups), but somewhere down the road, I'm going to make a dual PRail pickguard to see if that is as flexible as it sounds.

Note that my thinline is mahogany/maple cap, but I've heard that PRails tend to work well across the board if you happen to like the Prail combinations.
