Best pickups for Ltd elite horizon 3 fr?

I play mostly bullet for my Valentine style rhythm and leads, the guitar came with a custom 5 bridge and jazz in the neck. I plan to replace the custom 5 definitely for a trembucker, but I'm not sure about the jazz. I need something articulate, and unforgiving. I also need a good suggestion on squeezing out those pinch harmonics with this thing. I have an ibanez XIPHOS 27 FRET with a d activator bridge that almost squeals by itself but the Ltd isn't nearly as sensitive. Suggestions? I looked into the full shred and I'm just not sure. I want to go with Duncans definitely on this guitar. So any suggestions should take into consideration the pairing of a jazz pickup or include another good combination. I don't want actives, and I know that's what bfmv use. Only exception is Matt used a Rhoads with a jb and a jazz for at least one show.

I know a lot of the tone is in the amp, but I am pretty limited as far as that goes. I have a big rocktron combo amp and use a digitech rp155. I'm also a wah addict if that means anything. I get the tone on my xiphos but not the Ltd. Like I said, I just need pickup suggestion.

I am going to do a blueman335 and suggest magnet swaps. Ceramic magnet for the bridge position pickup. Alnico 4 magnet for the neck position pickup.

The other ingredient is valve (tube) amplification.

Check your string spacing and that will let you know if you need a (SH) Standard Humbucker spacing or a (TB) Trembucker spacing. You would usually use a TB on a guitar with a trem. As for which bucker the Full shred set is the most articulate pup Seymour has from the regular production line. If your looking for something a bit hotter with good articulation the Distortion or Black Winter is the way go to. Also the PATB-3 is basically a Distortion but designed for very lil string pull and a very clear and articulate pup. As for putting Ceramic mag into your Custom that is also a option and probably the cheapest one.

Well the jazz is a pretty articulate PU. Have u messed with PU height and pole pieces?

Harmonics are quite easy to grab from a Custom 5 IMO.

D Activators are designed with actives as a reference so that could be a reason why it's easier to dial the tone in that you want

Bullet for my Valentine? Just google their gear

Everything he has has an emg 81 in it. You could try the EMTY blackouts. Or maybe the Alt 8, I hear it's like a less compressed emg 81 if you wanna stay passive.

Oh and to achieve those pinch harmonics you need to find the sweet spot on where to pick at hit the string with the right amount of skin and pick. I've found the sweet spot for my guitar is right over the middle pup. Depending on which pup you have selected will also determine where you pick as well to get them.

Re: Best pickups for Ltd elite horizon 3 fr?

OK I am a rather experienced player, I can do pinches very well, I am already using gear as close to what I can afford. If you Google their gear you'll see they have a $20,000 tone. I have the tone dialed. Just NOT ON MY LTD. I have to compensate somehow for the change in wood and pickups. That's what I'm referring to. Oh and yes I measured the bridge pup And adjusted height ND individual poles before I ever posted here. Better, but still not there. I've done some eq tweaking and ran a small Peavy kb2 keyboard amp as an extension and boosted the mid a tad. It sounds a load better, but I still like the tone of the full shred. Less vintage I guess?

Sorry all I'm trying to reply to all the feedback I got here at once

Exactly what are all the differences in regular trembuckers an the patb's? I know the physical difference but what's does it do for the sound?

The PATB design from what I understand fixes certain flaws in a conventional humbucker design. The PATB reduces string pull for more sustain and gives better clarity and articulation. A regular Trem bucker is basically a regular bucker but with a wider spacing so the poles will align up properly under the strings. With the PATB design you can use it in guitars with and without a trem with no problem.

The PATB do sound different from regular buckers while Trembukers sound the same and look the same as Standard Humbuckers.

Don't they have different pole pieces?

Re: Best pickups for Ltd elite horizon 3 fr?

Yes, the pole pieces of the PATB line are quite different, very striking. You should go to the SD site and take a look.
