best pot for a spin-a-split?

I have a strat with hot rails and right now am using a one meg audio taper pot as a spin-a-split. I know with tone and volume controls, audio taper gives a more graduated response since we hear frequency on a logarithmic scale...but since the spin-a-split is actually making subtle adjustments in output, I thought maybe a linear 250k pot might give easier, more gradual control of the output. also I am def gonna go with a no load pot when I replace it. I would have already but it is nearly impossible to find one meg no load pots. but yeah. thoughts, anyone?

just ordered one of those myself:P seems like it should give a nice workable range when I use it.

Years ago when the spin-a-split surfaced, I found a REVERSE audio taper 1M pot that works great. From 0-5 it's a tone control. From 6-10 it's doing the split. It allow fine tuning the balance of the coils. 500k would probably work too. ;)

I use a 500k audio taper to spin-a-split a Dimebucker. It sounds great in mohogany. Below about 6 the tone thins out a bit, a tiny bit of single coil hum and top end sweetness come through. From 6-10 it very slightly mellows the tone.

I haven't tried any other potentiometer values. I pretty much went with 500k since that is what the neck & bridge volume pots were in that guitar.

Oh, and just a note since some think the Dimebucker is fairly bright, the mohogany body & rosewood fretboard tend to keep the high end mellow. When I use the spin-a-split, using the Dimebucker and Alnico II pro together gives sweet high end and adds some round mid & low content back into the signal. Granted, it is in a Washburn Dime 333, so I was trying to get a tone similar to the Pantera song 10's, a kinda molten, backed off distortion sound.

Anyhow, the combination of the high output bright pickup, mohogany body, and coil split really works well with the plain 500k audio taper pot...
