Best pots for antiquities?

Hello all,

I'm replacing the EMG ZW kit in my Epi les paul custom with antiquities, and would like to know what value pots you would suggest for them. I'll be using them for blues/blues-rock.

Definitely 500K's. The aged magnets in Ant's have a rounded high-end and need all the treble they can get.

Have you bought the PU's yet? if not, you should look at Seth's.

I've got mine w/300k linear taper volumes, and 500k audio taper tones using 0.047mfd orange drop caps and modern wiring. Works for me, but they are in an Epiphone Dot, so it is definitely a different sound than the LP. Just what works for me.

Why the Seths, blueman?

Some of the Duncan employees here have said Seth's are their favorite PU. What some of us have run into with Ant's is that the aged A2 magnets don't have much treble or output (fully-charged A2's don't have a lot of either to begin with). In a warmed-toned guitar the high-ends can be pretty rounded, especially LP's. Not my cup of tea. They're excellent PU's if that's the kind of warm tones you want. Seth's have fully-charged A2's and some of us here prefer that sound. The high-end on the bridge and neck is a little sharper and better defined. I've got 4 or 5 sets of Seth's, and one set of Ant's, and the Ant's aren't currently in a guitar.

Would a Seth in the neck and a Antiquity in the bridge be a viable option?

Depends on what you want. Remember Ant's have degaussed (weakened) A2's, so just about any neck PU will be louder. You've got a vintage low ouput wind, and a low output magnet that's not at full strength. To me, Seth's are great in many guitars for many things; Ant's are more specialized for players wanting a certain sound. What they do, they do well. Having owned both, I wouldn't hesitate to put a pair of Seth's in any guitar. I still haven't figured out where to use my Ant set.
