Who makes the best pots ?
For what application ... would be a better question? Everyone raves about CTS, but what they don't realize is that those are stock pots, 20% tolerance pots ... they are a bare bones pot made for ton of applications. Some of the Toshiba, Alps, and Bourns are much better speced, and State Electonics ( I think they used to be part of Allen Bradley) www.potentiometer.com offers alot of various tapers, tighter tolerances, and custom set-ups.
A lot of this stuff isn't used though, and unless you have a specifc application is kinda moot. Truth be told though most anything will work in a guitar, it's just not that critical unless your real picky, or just have a specific application for something. I will agree that a lot of the R.O.C. pots are junk, they get heat damage, they wear out fast, they are noisy, their tapers are *far* from accurate, and just generally made out of very flimsy cheap parts. The CTS stock pots are what most like because they are tough, and made well ... they are just that a *stock* pot. They generally last quite a while, and tolerate cleaning well, as well as soldering. For amps they may be better choices, and certainly so for pedals, for guitars they generally work just fine ... no need to get fancy.

I also really like those centralab mil-spec conductive plastic pots that are in my Rat, but I can't seem to find those for some odd reason, go figure ...

CTS man, hands down. just dont buy that sh*t from stew-mac.

CTS are the industry standard...they're what I use. And I agree about the StewMac pots...the last ones I bought from StwMac were made in Mexico and went south again after about two months of use. :burnout: Avoid 'em. Lew

Re: Best pots ?

I'm gonna suggest CTS pots, I got those in my '96 P-bass, 2002 P-bass, 70's Jap Strat, 90's Epi bass & strat and my Hondo II custom acoustic... they seem to hold up and don't make much noise... the only problem is... it's hard to find P-bass knobs to fit them... strange...
