Best reverb pedals?

I've been looking for a decent reverb pedal for a long time. The thing is the reverb I'm after isn't conventional splashy fender type reverb. I'm after the type of reverb you hear on old peter green fleetwood mac live recordings, I think he was using an orange outboard reverb unit. Or like the reverb My Morning Jacket uses in songs like One Big Holiday during the solos.
It's a very distinctive sound that almost screams into feedback when you bend a high note. Any ideas?

Re: Best reverb pedals?

I have been looking into the holy grail from electro harmonix, and it has me GASing big time. You can get one for around 100 bucks. Check it out on their website, they have clips of real big name artists using their pedals for different stuff.

Re: Best reverb pedals?

So it requires kind of a unique adaptor? That's ok, i can deal with it, I really like the idea of this pedal. I'm hoping to scoop one up, even second hand, with my post-christmas money.

Re: Best reverb pedals?

Got to check out the L6 verbzilla.:)

The Line 6 Verbzilla is the best one I've ever owned. Highly recommended!

I have the Boss also but I don't use it anymore now that I have the Verbzilla.

Re: Best reverb pedals?

There are a few different categories, depending on what you're looking for, but some of the cooler options are from Boss, DigiTech, Guyatone, Fender, Electro-Harmonix, and Danelectro.

Re: Best reverb pedals?

The Holy Grail is just that as far as pedals go IMO. I'm thinkin' you want something with a plate simulation though...

Re: Best reverb pedals?

Another vote for the Line 6 Verbzilla. Extrememly versatile. Some of the reverbs are a little tinny sounding, but the spring and plate are very nice.
I keep it in the effects loop of my Classic 30.

Re: Best reverb pedals?

I know what you're talking about and the old Fender outboard units did it...the good ones, anyway. The RI doesn't...

Re: Best reverb pedals?

I do not think the pedals will get you to the Fender outboard unit if that is what you want. I have not played an origional but the RI beats the pedals I have used or heard for a fender type reverb.

Re: Best reverb pedals?

The Fender and the Guyatone are kind of expensive, but for someone who wants a more authentic reverb sound, these are the 2 best choices. I prefer digital reverb stompboxes.

Re: Best reverb pedals?

IMO, the Verbzilla beats the outboard Fender unit. The outboard Fender unit has always eaten up a bit of the guitars signal and weakened the tone, IMO. I've owned quite a few of them over the last 30 years and every one has weakened the tone of the guitar. To verify this just plug into the Fender unit and listen...then plug straight into the amp. The volume will be stronger and the tone better plugged straight into the amp. The outboard Fender Reverb Unit can be modded to boost the output of the signal...but that changes the tone too. Lew

Re: Best reverb pedals?

I use my Holy Grail on the front end of the Edana and it's very VERY good in that role.

Re: Best reverb pedals?

I use my Grail into a Pro Jr. But I think it's best after/in a loop. Also - I'll throw this out there: The GOD OF ALL THAT IS REVERB is the Peavey valverb. Anyone had a chance to channel the mojo ofg that particular tube based tone monster?
