Best rock/metal amp for $500 to $700?

Re: Best rock/metal amp for $500 to $700?

I'd go with a 5150, but you apparently don't like those.

I'd also possibly go with a Single Recto, but same story...

Maybe a JSX?

A lot of people really like Laney AOR's with an SD-1 or something as a boost. Same with Sovtek Mig-50H's.

A used DSL 50 or 100 fits in that price range, and is the matching head for your cab.

You could probably get a mesa boogie mark 3 red stripe head if you shopped around a bit. Whether you would like it or not is another thing altogether. Note that I'm not actually referring to this as the ultimate metal/rock amp, just another contender.

Laney AOR Pro-Tube simple cant get more metal than this for 500. Plust you get awesome old school sabbath cleans as well.

you know what! maybe the 5150 combo that i used to have just was a bad one! because I was listening to some of your clips and your 5150 sounds killer. I been checking out some 5150 heads ! which of all the different ones is the best one dude? 5150 block letters? 5150 II ?

How come no one has suggested the Orange Tiny Terror??? It's all-tube, Class-A heaven that'll give you totally searing hard rock tones. Moreover, it's relatively cheap (about $500 new) and light-weight!! Check it out on YouTube and I'm sure you'll be impressed.

Your best bet is to stick with the original, the 5150. Signature or blockletter doesn't matter - they're identical.

The clean channel's basically unusable, though.
