Yes I'm posting another poll, but I'm just curious about everyone's opinion on this. Comment your thoughts! Sorry that I couldn't fit in all the options in there it only allows 10 possible poll options.

UPDATE: Im talking about 80s Heavy metal, old school thrash, and old school death metal.

I own five of the pickups in the poll. For me personally, it's the AHB-1. However, if I were going to go with a passive pickup, it would be the Custom.

One would really have to define metal...

All those pickups really have a place at the table. (Aside from the dimebucker I have owned or own all the passives listed, and I own several l500's XL, L, R, and C)

Black Winter to me seems the most versatile without sacrificing any functionality, though I think it would be a poor choice for doom or stoner metal. (I could be mistaken as I dont play or listen to much of that)

I voted custom and looks like I put things in a deadlock. I wanted to add an honest disclaimer tho. I havnt tried any of the pickups on the list from the Nazgul down. Although I am getting a black winter set for my Charvel.. And, I also wanted to say that if your definition of metal is 80s metal, then the JB would be a great choice as well. JB was also used by Megadeth too, so it can stretch beyond 80s metal

Custom for me, like it more than the DD. JB really does it for me for metal leads. Hopefully I'll check out the Full Shred on an Ibanez RG soon. But I really dig the '59 bridge for metal, even if it's not a high output pup. Always hated active pups.

So many good choices! I went with the Black Winter out of what was there though there and I have 4 of them (custom custom is a mag swap away from custom). Never tried any of the SD actives :( Always wanted to try Distortion but never got one and I hear the Black Winter is a refined version of it and the JB is like a mag swap away almost.

Currently for bridges that people might call metal I have... Alternative 8, Black Winter, Custom Custom, Invader, JB and SLUG. Love them all for different reasosn except the Invader which I still like a lot but people say it's muddy/undefined and I agree.

Yeah - metal is a broad term….

Sabbath to Priest to Ratt to Metallica to Pantera….

Re: Best Seymour Duncan Bridge pickup for a six string metal sound

There is so much variation in the word 'metal'. A pickup great for early Sabbath wouldn't even be the right one for later Sabbath, much less other metal bands.

So much truth.

I mean, there's blues flavored metal, where a tight low end isn't required or even desired most of the time.

Then you have bands like Metallica where not having that percussive palm muted sound means that all your riffs are gonna be super loose sounding.

Or just fizzy with no beef.

Best SD bridge pickup for 6-string Metal (...that a new sub-genre?...) will be either active or passive, will have at least one coil, and should be one that can connect to an output jack of a guitar.

It should also have some sort of magnet inside it.

I just updated the description for all of you smart allecks!

Re: Best Seymour Duncan Bridge pickup for a six string metal sound

I put Dimebucker but definitely see how so many of those listed can make a valid case
