Re: Best Speaker Cabinet Wire?
Hahahaha.... I am resurrecting a dead thread...... Boo hoo
I am not here to agree with the majority here, those whom think that there is no sound difference between speaker cables.
In my 27 years experience with my band , dark order, studying at JMC Academy of Audio Engineering, working for various guitar and music instrument shops, recording 3 albums, befriending great amp techs, luthiers ect.. I can defiantly say that every human being is unique, and to that, they all hear differently from on another.
That being said, to me, those who cannot hear the difference between cables, especially speaker cables, are the same caliber of tone deaf people who cannot tell the difference between a digital amp, like Kemper, and a real analogue amp.
I on the other hand, hear everything, and it's my blessing and my curse.
Like Metal Maniac, I too am on the hunt for good quality, well insulated OFC internal speaker harness with for my cabs, without resorting to spending $150 USD for Colossal Cable's speaker harness:

Years ago I replaced the wire in my Marshall cabs with cable I purchased from Bunnings, I noticed more bottom end, sound slightly broader sounding. Then just before recording my last album, I talked to my amp tech who said to use mains cable of the internal wire, and when I made the changes I immediately heard the mids sound more open sounding and clearer. I was happy with the change.
In regard to Head to cabinet speaker cable, I have purchased and trying CBI figure 8 with switch craft connectors - which made the sound have tight low end, but the overall sound was like a wet blanket effect.
I then purchased Planet Waves speaker cable which had this scooped mids sound that just sucked for my Marshalls, absolute ****.
Then I purchased Klotz cable, forgot the name, but it has blue jacks, and they have full mids, but a slow transient attack to them which isn't suited for Thrash Metal, but would works well for Blues and Rock.
I then bought from Sydney Sound Cables their Canare cable with switch craft ends, which gave the amp a very harsh high end attack, I think they are better suited for Bass rigs, so I gave them to my Bassist.
As all those speaker cable are more are than $50 each, I decided to try the cheap speaker cable from Swamp Industries, try to make a point like all those here that believe that cheap 'lamp cord' suffice as speaker cable. Well let me tell you these cables have no body, or bottom end, just high mids. They make your sound like bright ****. So NO to cheap speaker cable.
Then my luthier mate put me on to two brands, one very good, and the other ****ing spectacular
The very good brand is Germany's SOMMER CABLES, their speaker cable has clear detailed mids, quick transient attack, and transperant low end. $40 per cable, great for Thrash Metal.
Then I also tried the Colossal Cable 'Colossus' which made me **** my pants. I have never heard an amp sound soooo ****ing huge. Un****enbeleivable. BUT, for thrash metal, the low end and low mids were too large and fat, but for rock.....holy fuuuuugen he'll. WORTH THE MONEY.
I then purchased the LAVA cables 'Tephra' and for my music style, it was right in the pocket. Tight low end, fat fat sparkly mids, and detailed top end without any harshness, and a very pleasing punch.
So that's my experience, not direct at those here who believe speaker cable don't make a difference, but really for the dude that made the post originally, I hope it gives you answers that you were originally looking for.
Good luck mate
