I'd like to tap into the collective wisdom of the SDF and get your sage advice on this topic. I'm starting to go cookoo for cocoa puffs regarding p90 pick ups. I'd like my next guitar to be equipped with p90's. Here is a list that I have compiled as possible entrants into the vault. PRS SE 245, Gibson 60's Tribute 2016, used PRS Starla, Fender Jim Adkins. Someone mentioned that Reverend has some sweet p90's guitars. What else should I consider? The trick here is my budget is $1,000 or less . . . preferably less. I play primarily blues soaked riff rock with some country spank in there, too. Thanks in advance for any help or direction here. I really appreciate it.

The stock pickups in the 60s Tribute LP are phenomenal, if you don't want to tinker/upgrade. When i ordered mine, i had every intention of swapping them out... Until I heard them. I definitely liked that model better, though, when they had natural colored backs (on certain finishes) rather than dark. Gave it a masked/faux binding look.

I would check out Prestige Guitars, the guys in Vancouver. Be prepared to be very surprised by what they offer. And their fit & finish is excellent, at least on the one I purchased.

I'd pick up a used Special or Special Faded from the '90's or early '00's.

Just got a '15 Gibson Double Cut (with the dreaded-but I love it-G Force!) for $599 brand new at Guitar Center. Nicest Gibby I've ever played, and the first, regardless of price, that made me want to take it home.

Les Paul or SG 60s tributes. I bought a 2013 60s tribute for $729 on clearance and it was a humbucker model. I stripped it and put duncans and 50s wiring in and it's my main guitar.
I set it up and it fricken rocks.. It plays as well as my Les Paul that cost 4 times as much.. The Gibson P90s are pretty good, they have a killer growl to them...
I just didn't like the Burstbuckers in mine.. I hate Gibson humbucker other than a couple but the P90s are great if thats what your after..

Thats my vote Les Paul or SG 60s with P90s..

If you can handle a hollow body, there's the Epi Casino and Wildcat, and then the P-90 version of the S-H Riviera. Gary Clark does pretty well on blues with his Casino. I loved the SG Classic too.

P-90s can be great pickups. I had a '75 Gibson LP '55 Special Reissue, and that is one guitar I miss. Hamer had a Studio Custom with P-90s: Ibanez did a Ghostrider, and Schecter did a C-1 model with them--all cool guitars.

Let us know what you find.

I'm gonna go against everybody else here and tell you to find a Peavey Firenza with P90s. A buddy has one and it is the best sounding P90 guitar I've ever heard (short of spending $$$$$$$$$$ on a vintage Gibson) He also has a couple modern things like a P90 SG and LP, plus an older LP-Jr, I played them all with this one and the Peavey just pushed all my P90 buttons. Plus when they pop up on the bay/reverb, they go for less than 3 bills... how can you go wrong?
Same guy has one of those Squier Teles with P90s (can't remember the model name, but they look like a 70's Deluxe but with 90's instead of Wide Ranges) those are nice, and way under your budget limit.
BUt really, try to find a Firenza.
THere's one on Reverb right now, but someone put Bill Lawrence pups in it already, so that won't help you... (i may snatch it though)

I recently came down with the P-90 bug, and I've been eyeing this one lately...

Many thanks to the collective wisdom of players here who have forgotten more about this topic than I'll ever know.

If you could find one of the P90Zs like in my thread it would be a sub $1000 guitar maybe even sub $500 but well worth it even as a Korean made import.

Re: Best Value p90 loaded guitar - Sub $1,000

Single cutaway shaped PRS SE Soapbar. Add American P90s and control electronics. Plug in to a valve amplifier. Crank up the gain. Play. Smile a lot.

Don't even need the american pickups I've got one with only some wiring mods,Orange drop cap and treble bleed, and sound really nice.

But the PRS 245 was on sale in the UK for months, they dont seem to about now though. There's even New Old stock 2013 50s tribute Gibsons on some websites.

But I would recommend a 2016 Gibson I've got a faded Studio and love it. set up perfectly

P-90 lover since the 80's when I had a '59 Junior. Just bought a used PRS SE with soapbars that sound pretty darn good. Next January when I get some time, I have some Lindy Fralin hum-canceling P-90's going in it, and it will be just over half a grand. Sure it will be kickass.
