Best way to split guitar signal?

I'm interested in getting a device to allow me to split the signal from electric guitar and run it into, say, an amp and a PODxt simultaneously, or two amps, or an amp and some effects, etc. etc. for recording. Does anybody have a suggestion for a quality piece of gear that will split the signal without degrading tone or causing any weird loading or impedence issues? I assume maybe some kind of direct box?

You can do it with many stereo effects pedals. Somthing like the boss PS-3 or Marshall Vibtratrem will split your signal without causing any weird impedance issues or degrading the tone. I've used both (and used to play out with a stereo guitar amp rig). When the pedals are off, the signal is still split so you get two dry split signals . . .

The standard choice is an A/B/Y box or any of a number of selector stomp boxes. But as Stv mentioned, it is fun to do it with stereo-capable effect pedals. Most modulation and ambience effect pedals provide a simple means for splitting your signal. In addition to that, you can add and adjust some extra dimension into your tone at the same time. Even a slapback delay with minimized delay time, minimized repeats, and maximized level is cool.

I suggest an Ebtech Hum Eliminator to remove any ground loop hum you may get. It doesn't lift the ground, so you don't have to worry about any little shocking surprises. Plus, it doesn't color your tone one little bit.

I run mine split all the time. A Duncan SFX-01 and a "Y" cable work perfectly. No kidding. The SFX-01 acts as the buffer and the impedance matcher.

Edit: Ooops . . . I may need to back-pedal one 'mo time. That method won't work if you have ground loop problems. You can try it, but if you get hum & buzz in the "Y" mode, you'll need something better. Sorry. :blackeye:

I usually plug my guitar into a Behringer Ultra DI which has a 1/4" and a XLR outlet that allow me to hook up to different devices for recording. The Behringer Ultra DI is very quiet and the price is resonable. Sometimes I even daisy chain two DIs together.
