I have been an avid Shure SM 57 & 58 user for as far back as I can remember..... I know that there are other mics that may arguably perform better, but I just didnt have any complaints about the 57's and 58's that warranted an "upgrade." This past weekend, I did a live audtition, meaning the first time I played with them was during the show, and they had Beat 58s set onstage. I was very impressed with the small differences in tone, headroom, and clarity.... I dont know if it is as roadworthy as the 58, but it sure sounded slightly "better" (for lack of a better word). Yes, I did plug a SM58 in without changing settings so that I could get an unbiased decision. I really do like the Beta 58, but the price isn't justifiabel just yet. Maybe if money becomes less of an issue for me, until then I will stick to what I know and own.... But for those who have a few dollars extra, I think it is worth it!!!!!
