Bg 1400 vs Vintage Stack?

Anyone have experience with both these pickups? I had a stk-t3b pickup 4or5 years ago, I really liked it in one tele, but found it a bit weak and flat in another. I remember really liking the snappy boost it had in split mode.

I am building a Hot Rod tele with a mini humbucker in the neck. At first I was thinking antiquity pups, but have changed my mind a bit, and decided to make a totally hum-cancelling build. I have decided on the sm-1n for the neck position as it seems well loved in there.

I talked with the nice SD customer service folks, and they gave me the idea of the bg1400. I really like some of the clips I hear of it, others sound a tad dark and mid-rangy, but I also remember wanting a touch more punch out of the vintage stack last time I had it.

For those of you who have experience with the BG 1400 is it comparable to the vintage stack or is it much hotter and something else entirely? Any thoughts on how either pickup would match with the sm-1n in the neck? Does the Bg1400 split nicely into a more twangy option like the vintage stack did?

I like the more modern country/rock hybrid tones and its pretty split these days on whether they are teles or something with humbuckers so I kinda wants this tele to do both those sounds. Im just not sure if the bg 1400 will be 'tele' enough for when I need it too, can't seem to find anyone who has split one either and reported their findings.

Thanks

Re: Bg 1400 vs Vintage Stack?

They are not even close to similar.

The vintage stack is a vintage wound single coil and the BG-1400 is a fairly dark humbucker. They are both good, but they are on opposite ends of the spectrum.

I have a BG-1400 in an Esquire and it does a fairly good job at what it does, that being a ZZ Top hard rock tone. It also sounds pretty nice in parallel. I have no experience with the Vintage though.
