Biasing Question

On my RT2 I can bias my own tubes. After I do that could I take the tubes out and replace them in another amp? Or does biasing deal with the amp and not setting the tubes? I am looking at purchasing another amp, but don't want to take it into the shop every time I have tubes go out. Guess I am not that knowledgable about it, because I never had to worry about it before.

Thanks

Re: Biasing Question

Hey Cory, any time you put new or used tubes in an amp, you will need to check and most likely adjust the bias. So, if you have a set of Svetlana EL34's running in one channel of your Randall power amp and you want to pull them and put them in a Marshall 50w plexi, then you will need to adjust the bias on the plexi to make sure you have optimal current draw on the tubes. It's the amp that you are adjusting to the tube.... not, adjusting the tube to the amp.

Biasing on the RT2 is a piece of cake with the biasing leads right on the panel. I wish my VHT had that feature, because I'm always checking the bias as the bias point shifts as tubes age - and it's an ordeal to get in there!

Ah! I didn't think it was going to be that easy, but I thought I would check. I guess what made me wonder, is that I saw something about you can buy tubes with matched bias (or something along that line). You still need to setup the amp for the tubes though eh. Hmmm, I'll just wait and get another RT2 then. It is too nice of a feature to have on a amp.
