Big amp purchase - specific amp tone or do-it-all?

Guys, thinking about spending a wad of cash on an amp, but in a conundrum. On one hand I'm thinking about getting something boutique (Victoria or Cornell) that's going to capture that Fender sound I love and probably use 90% of the time. I'm hedging towards a Cornell Romany+ as it's only a 1x12 10w that I can either mike up for small gigs or use at home.

On the other side of the coin, I've always gassed for a Rivera Quiana after playing one - really liked all the channels on it (not the prefect Fender clean, but close). The other channels really rock, which would satiate my VH tendencies. So what to do? Get the boutique or the jack of all trades?

It sounds like you've already got it figured out, you want more versatility than just the Fender clean, so you'd probably be better off with an amp that'll give you those hard rocking overdriven tones as well ;)

Look at the new Fender Super Sonic. It or one of its new siblings make be the perfect compromise between "authentic Fender" and "versatile" for you. No sense spending big $$$ if you can get the job done for medium-sized $$$.

+1 what Rich said. Another way to go would be to get the Victoria, if that's what you're really gassing for, and a Plexitone pedal or the like. I have a Plexitone I use through an old Univox with a 4X12 and a 59 Bassman circuit 2X12 combo amp. This pedal sounds awesome through the Bassman.

The one Rivera I've ever heard was an amazing amp.
