Something strange happened the other day at band-rehearsel:
I usually play a JCM DSL 50W with my Les Paul, it has a JB in the bridge.
This sounds OK enough (maybe not great, but OK). Then I decided to try out the amp of my band-mate, a Fender Dual Showman 100W. The volume-drop of him playing his amp (with a stock Gibson SG) and me playing with my guitar was huge!! When I played it, the volume dropped to less than half, with the same settings. Then we tried my amp with both our guitars, and we sounded almost equal.
Also, when I played his amp, the sound was kind of "boxy" with reduced upper and lower frequencies.
Does anyone knows why this might have happened?
Thanks
