since boxing day is coming up tomorrow i'm considering going down to my local music store and checking out the deal they've got. I'm interested in getting a fuzz pedal and i've been looking at the big muff pi. I haven't had the chance to play it yet but i hear for what you pay you get a pretty good pedal. does anyone have any thoughts about this? Should I go a different route, is there anything better considering how well it works and the money you're dishing out? thanks for any help, and merry christmas!

the big muff is a cool pedal, and its great if you like the tone. try a bunch of fuzz pedals and decide for yourself which one is thr right one

What sort of tone are you shooting for? I play metal, and really don't like all the classics (big muff, rat, etc...).

I have one and I hate it. It just sounds too compressed, artificial and muddy, no matter how I dial it in. I had more success by using an EQ to take out as much bass end as I could manage from the signal before the signal went to the pedal. I'm told they sound killer with lace sensors, that's the setup Billy Corgain used in the pumpkins but I just don't hear that sound when I use my guitars and amp.

Try it first....the Big Muff only really has one sound to it, and you either like it or you don't. Personally I like it, but I know plenty who don't.

Big Muff adds compression with the fuzz which can increase your sustain. The down side to that is that you might not like the way it colors your tone. :)
