big need in help for amp!!

alright im getting largely disatisfied with my current amp, marshall avt150 combo, so im gonna fight against my GAS and save for an amp. the problem with it right now is that it sounds thin when used with lower gain situations(gain 5) and sometimes it just sounds like a fart :D
i like a crunchy sound from an amp, like an 80's tone but not as bright. i play everything from 60's classic rock/blues to modern day metal to country to jazz. i was thinking of getting some nice clean fender amp and using some sort of pedal to distort it. but i like amp distortion alot more than digital stuff. i like to have a nice clean sound too, not fender twin clean but clean enough to do bluesy stuff and jazz stuff. im having a hard time getting the tones i want from my amp now, so therefeore i want something new.

can you please help me! :)

Re: big need in help for amp!!

Judging by what you're looking for, I would seriously consider checking out Budda amplifers ... I have found the tone of these amps, including the little combo, to be spectacular! They're built completely by hand, and will do what you're looking for sonically.

Re: big need in help for amp!!

Look around for a used Fender silverface amp of moderate power (deluxe at 22 watts to bassman at 45-50 watts), or greater, depending on your needs. Then hit it with a good OD pedal when you need some grit -- plenty of choices in the TS-808 vein that should work well, along with scads of other choices. I think these pedals tend to sound better if the tube amp is wound up a bit, which is why I would prefer an amp with moderate power (love my 35 watt blackface Tremolux) rather than something like a Twin, but it's your call. It's tough to beat Fender clean and versatility, although I like Orange a lot, too.

Well if you want amp distortion you wont get if from the avt's,they use pre-amp tubes to distort and sound very gritty, i'd definitly recomment the DSL 50 and get an attenuator but as of yet i still have no money for an attenuator so mabye you'd want something more affordable..

Re: big need in help for amp!!

Check out the peavey classic series. Great quality low cost tube amps. The cleans are great, and the overdrive is good as well even though i perfer a nice pedal in front of it such as a TS-808 copy.
