Big strings for a jackson soloist = Safe?

Hi,

I recently try a custom set of string of Ernie Ball. It was 10-13-17-30-42-54.
I really like the sound of these string on my SL2HT but I was wondering if that set was not too much tension for the neck. I play in standard tuning.
I'm able to setup properly my guitar, but that much tension is maybe too much for a jackson soloist neck. What you think?

If it causes a problem, there's something wrong with the guitar. There's a longtime member here (Zerberus) who uses 12-54 and 13-56 on his Jacksons with no issues.

that is not that bad a set... heavier then most on the lows for sure but not bad....

Any USA Jackson (or other properly manufactured instrument) should haver zero issues whatsoever. You may need to tweak the trussrod and adjust the spring tension (depending on your current string guage), and of course reset the intonation... but otherwise nothing should stand in your way. ;)

As has been stated, Mine have been strung with 12-52 in standard tuning for forever and a day, and they´re all holding up just fine :headbang:

I've never even heard this question before. No guitar should have a problem with string guages. Relax man. You don't want to sound like a nervous old lady.

Errr, guitars with really think necks? Original Wizard I neck without volute for eg. Pretty much all the experienced guys on the Ibanez.com/forum (the guys that have been playing them since the original RG550 came out) can testify to really heavy gauge strings as a no no. Given that those sort of guitars are made for really easy playability and what not, it would be odd to put real heavy strings on them anyway.

Yeah. I love my RG but I admit it's probably fragile on that aspect. I wouldn't go higher than 11-52 at standard tuning on it. And if I really wanted that kind of playability, I'd get a Strat of some sort and start ripping my fingertips away. :D

You probably have to adjust the truss rod, and sometimes people break it when doing so.

Just be careful and don't do anything forceful without consulting a professional.
