Bill Lawrence USA Wiring Colours

Hey there guys,

I've been following things on the forum for a good few years now but this is my first thread, so hello everyone!

I'm currently in the process of swapping out the BL USA L500XL in my 1997 Washburn N2 for a Manson by BKP MBK3. It's supposed to be based around the Aftermath from what I've read - they retail for about £140 each but I picked one up on eBay for £35, so I was well pleased with that!

I'm not awful at wiring but I'm not an expert either and I just wanted to double check before whacking it in that I was doing it right. In my N2 with the BL, I've got the red going to pickup selector, black and earth to the back of the pot and green and white to the DPDT on the pot. I can't seem to find a consistent wiring code for BL USA pickups though.

I believe for BKP red is north start, green is north finish, white is south start and black is south finish - would anyone be able to help me find out which is which on the BL so I don't mess up my wiring?

Cheers guys, much appreciated!

If uncertain, the way I know to check is with a meter. With all four disconnected, the pairs that get a reading are two coils in/out. Then you'd have to try two you believe might be hot / ground and touch the other two together as series. If you get a normal, expected reading you've found the series link. Kind of a puzzle - you'll might have to try all the combinations to work it out.

Probably the best way is contact Lawrence directly. http://www.wildepickups.com/How_To_Order.html

Technically, you don't need to know the Lawrence code, you need to know the wiring circuit of the guitar (http://www.vintagewashburn.com/Wiring Diagrams/N2 - Wiring Diagram.pdf) and the codes of the replacement pickups. Whatever pickup is in there now isn't so relevant.

Sorry about that. I thought his wife would have the historical information.

The domain for that email doesn't seem to be online as a website, but the related USA web site seems to have color codes and diagrams right on the homepage.

As far as i know the wiring codes are still the same, I have no first hand info but ive heard from various sources they arent keen on servicing each others products.

Being as there are years of lawsuits, allegations of fraud, and forgery...

I would not contact Wilde with a BLUSA issue.
