Looking at both of these pickups and trying to decide between the two. Looks like new you can get the 500XL and 500L for almost the same piece as just the SH-13. Thoughts?

I have used the Dimebucker in a couple of guitars; Mahogany w/Maple Top Kramer SC-3 and another Mahogany Bodied Les Paul Copy and I thought it was a very nice sounding pickup and split nicely as well. Nice cut, plenty of power. Have played BL XL500 and 500L but never owned...preferred the Dimebucker.

I had XL-500 in my Carvin, which replaced a dimarzio SuperD. A decent pup. A little harsh compared to the smoother SuperD. Ended up giving the bill lawrence to my nephew and re-installed the SuperD.

Thanks for the heads up--was leaning more towards te Seymour Duncan just because except for the Liquifire that's all I tend to use.

Just to add--I'm looking at the possibility of basswood, mahogany or walnut body...

I had both pickups in my axes. I had the BL in a B.C. Rich NJ that was a backup axe. It sounded so good and played so well it worked its way into the set. The things sounded wonderful with my Randell half stack and DOD 250. I now have a Dimebucker in my mahogany Iceman. I must say it is a step above the Bill Lawrence XL-500. The clarity even with high gain is amazing. What I love about it is, it is a great classic rock pickup. It has just enough punch to naturally drive my Fender Excelsior. I get a great early Who, Stones vibe out of the guitar and amp around 11 - 12 o'clock on the volume. I will also say for a ceramic it has a very warm tone, not sterile in any way. I love both pickups but I would have to lean towards the Dimebucker.

I wish SD made a version for Teles - HINT!

The clarity at high gain is what I was looking for...so I think you just sold me on the Dimebucker.

Thanks for the info!

in a little resume, the Lawrences L500XL had a more flat eq going on, while the dimebucker is like a V eq but the mids actually aren't scooped is just that the bass and higs are more prominent, also the lawrence and the dime had diferent high end textures.

something that really diferences these p'ups from the rest is their ridiculously clarity while being extremely high output (duncan chart sets the dime at the same output zone that blakouts; more than 1000 mV)

from all the comparison clips the pup that i liked the most is the Dimebucker and having that thing on my V, i knew it was the right pickup since i first blasted that little bastard through my amp... then it was just surpricing that the pup wasn't a one trick pony 'cause with just some knobs turning it can go from dime to tony (iommi) to bluesy and even twangy (parallel is punchy twang land)

Thanks for sharing! I really appreciate the info!

Doing some research, I was thinking of pairing the SH-13 with a DiMarzio Dominion in the neck...I have the Liquifire paired with a SH-12 and they blend very well together...

I never tried A/B them but both of them visited my pickup test area guitar and the Dimebucker had a slightly more open sound. If fluid punchy edgy metal sound is your way to go, you can't really go wrong with them really. You may also take a look at the DiMarzio X2N. It's the least edgy out of the three but comes with a really similar flavour, maybe a little flatter. Out of the two my choice would be the Dimebucker because of its edge.

Man I'm reall sad to read that Billy has gone.

R.I.P. tone man :(

Hmm, I'll check out the X2N but just from my experience, I'm never really been a fan of DiMarzio bridge pickups–not at all knocking the company just have not played a DiMarzio bridge pickup position that I liked. The Crunchlab was the closest I had to liking but it felt like a one trick pony and with my playing didn't hold up well at lower volume nor clean.

I love DiMarzios in the neck position–currently have the Liquifire and am looking at the Dominion. But I will check out the X2N–I don't want to knock something just because. lol
