Does anyone know if there are any videos or books out there that analyse the guitar style The Reverend?

Hi. You might check out JKLutherie. They usually have a tone of videos and books, etc. The other option might be the ZZ Top website. I haven't checked them, but it seems like a possibility.

There are a few vids from the 80's and even one or maybe 2 from the early 90's but if ya wanna learn how to play like the Rev the first thing ya gotta do is stay greasy, feel the notes just as much as ya hear them and don't rush things like runs and bends...a long slow bend is a powerful thang. Next, remember the greats and by greats I mean Wolf, Muddy and Bo just as much as I mean Hendrix and Beck...Billy looked up to all those guys and learned from them all. Next, and maybe most important...Boogie! If ya know what I mean then you're good to go if ya don't, figure it out quick!

Now, like my man Billy G would say, grab that slab, plug that sucker in, and grind me a pound. Make yo'se'f happy".

Biily also likes to use an old peso instead of a pick. But I agree, he gets more out a few notes than most shredders can with a boat load. Like Peter Green...less is better:14:

ZZ Top tabs are pretty readily available, just learn everything you can & see if you can find things that he does a lot in songs & practice them even more. After awhile you'll be able to play kinda like him more or less on demand

'swhat I did with the Hellacopters, works pretty well

Thanks for all the replies Gentlemen - funnily enough, my other big hero is Peter Green. It's all in the tone and phrasing, isn't it? Plain passion and good taste. Not that this is any easier to learn than Yngwie Malmsteen, of course. It takes courage to play so simply.

I've ALWAYS prefered great tone and style over putting as many notes as possible into X amount of time! That's probably why I hate jazz!!!!
