im ordering a jackson kelly from this site called ishibashi.
and there are 2 models of the certain series i wanna buy

they are both the same guitar
they feature a neck thru body
with a finished neck (in the body color)
floyd rose licensed trem

but the differences in the 2 models are a better bridge pickup or neck binding

the first one is called KE-1100A
this one has a Seymour Duncan TB-5 bridge pickup (the other pickup is a "jackson stars" pickup
and no neck binding

the other one is a KE-1100J
it has 2 jackson star pickups
and neck binding

they both cost the same ammount of money

so what should i choose the neck binding or the better pickup??
im thnkin the neck binding cause the guitar is all black and maybe that will add contrast...and ill probably replace the pickups anyways
but i still want your guys opinions

if you want the links

KE-1100A

KE-1100J

thanks in advanced

Neck .. thru ... Kelly ... for that price ...

Zerb ... punch me ... Or tell me what the F#$% the catch is

Re: binding or better pickup on jackson

I want to know too..sorry for the hijack!

Re: binding or better pickup on jackson

Binding bro. Think about it, if you wanted binding, how much would it cost for you to have that guitar work done? Used SD's cost like 50 bucks a shot.

Re: binding or better pickup on jackson

the bigger amazement is the king v....
:)

cause there isnt any kv available (excluding the string thru one) in the us that cheap....and a neckthru ontop of that

hopefullt there is no catch....

yeah on the un-hijacked part of the thread :-p
ill go w/ binding i think

Re: binding or better pickup on jackson

I'd go with binding as well.

The Jackson Stars series are similar to the "Grover Jackson" branded guitars, but have slightly different specs. They are made in Japan by ChinSu Gakki, who have built all japanese Jacksons and Charvels since day 1. he qualilty is ok, but I personally find the guitars often have a "Persormer series" feel to them, like the first (Japanese) run of PS-series axes. Good guitars for the money, but a "true" USA Jackson or even a Japanese one will usually blow them away.

BTW, the "stars" series is only available in Japan. In fact, I think was would be a better word, I think they were discontinued in favor of the Grover Jacksons (essentially the Japanese lineup with a different logo)...

Here the main Differences: Stars <-> Jackson Japan
Body wood: Basswood contra Alder.
Construction: Neck thru vs Bolt on
Pickups: Stars vs D.Designed
Trem: PRESUMABLY Schaller JT-590 vs JT-580LP

That would mean better hardware than a current Japanese Jackson if I´m right. Get it with binding, in Black, I find the neck feels better. If you don´t like it, tell me, I´ll take it off you ( I have "plans" for a neck thru kelly myself) ;)

BTW, how much is that, anyway (before I get caught up in this)? Anything over 500 and I´ll probably wait for a used USA Kelly top walk by.. ;)

binding would probably set you back more than an SD pickup :)

Re: binding or better pickup on jackson

If u want binding... get binding, if you don't... dont. Pups are more replaceable than binding.

eh so would it be better if i go with a KE-3??
its cheaper than the stars
the stars is approximatly 700 (us) dollars (i once converted the price at work but i forgot it exactly)

and i could get a ke-3 for like 570$ (in a crimson swirl finish)

since you said the stars usually have a 'performer ' feel should i just buy the normal import jackson? and then swap the pickups and such

i jsut dun wanna waste 700 bucks + importing costs if i endup with a performer quality guitar (my friend has one and its pretty bad)

bumpidy bump bump bump....
i want a zerbified opinion on whether to go with the ke-3 or the stars...
;)
lol zerbified

Re: binding or better pickup on jackson

well... That strange model has neck thru, but it's ****ing basswood...
I'm no guitar guru, but It makes sence that neckthru does not help if the wood is crap.

The Jackson Japan is alder, but how good qualety is it on the alder on japan jackson?

I don't know what I would have chosen.

After thinking about it for a while, I´d go with the stas w/Binding. The Hardware is better, they´re made by the same people on the same lines, and it´s neck-thru. The basswood sounds thin IMO, but with the added low mids of a neck-thru it might even sound pretty good.

I think the worst thing that could possibly happen is a fret dressing and setup might be necessary, because there´s less margin for error on a neck-thru.

The KE-3 is the "smaller gamble", but I think the stars can´t be that bad. But it´s a tad chancey ;)

Re: binding or better pickup on jackson

i would go with the pickup but thats just because im not a huge fan of binding anyways

Re: binding or better pickup on jackson

Everyone's already said the obvious answer here, but ill say it again.

Binding! You can get a good pickup (which you said you'll probably end up doing anyway) much easier than you can get binding added on in the future if you want.

No contest...binding!
