Bizarre problem - weird chorus sound

I just got home from a gig - played my Hamer artist with a new Jimmy Page custom shop pickup that I recently installed - sounded GREAT, but a weird problem emerged - I was getting a chorus-like sound at times, but I had no chorus in my pedal board -- the only effect I had on was a slap back style delay. It was really strange (actually sounded kind of neat) and I have no idea what caused it.

Any one out here have a thought as to why this would have happened? could pickup height have had something to do with it? Or the fact that this guitar is a semi-hollowbody? What else might it be?

Thanks for any help on this!

Hello

I think that´s it´s a combanition of things it could be pickup height combined with semi-hollowbody.
I really have no clue more than i think it´s a combination of things

Are you using both pups on ? If so they could be wired out of phase. That would make them sound thin and weak as well as what you described.

No - I play almost exclusively on the bridge pickup only, and that's where the problem was most evident. Really wacky - never had anything like that happen before.

Any other thoughts?

Re: Bizarre problem - weird chorus sound

I assume the guitar is not a 12 string. What's the stage set-up? Could be you were getting intermittent phase cancellations. Not so much the guitar's doing, probably more like the interactions of various speakers, their physical positioning in relation to each other. If it happens again but only at a gig, try angling your speakers about 45-90 degrees left or right, or perhaps angle it up if it's not already.

Re: Bizarre problem - weird chorus sound

I'm guessing the pickup is too high, pulling on the strings, and causing weird overtones and/or tuning problems.

Hi - stage setup is the guitar into a GT8 into a blackface deluxe. amp has been part of my setup for 20 years - gt8 for the last 5.

My main guitar (a brian moore with a JB) has never exhibited the chorusy thing that I'm getting now. Very weird!

Thanks for the suggestions guys - keep'em coming.

Re: Bizarre problem - weird chorus sound

I suspect a kind of vibrating on pup if there is not phase problem. Ask a band mate to put his finger on the pickup while you are playing. A cure could be to use longer springs or / and foam under the pickup. Hope that helps.

Re: Bizarre problem - weird chorus sound

Does it happen with the effect turned off?.Chorus is a form of delay much like a lot of effects.:scratchch
